Dubai in June

Will it be too hot?
Also what area would be the best to stay for first time, only going for four nights and what would you recommend to do?
I know it’s not everyone’s place to go so not looking for a debate.

In short - yes. Unless you plan to spend the whole of your trip indoors and in the malls.

babydreamer1 · 08/04/2018 10:56

No, I go in May every year and it's fine. It's hot of course but air con is everywhere even outside at many bars and restaurants. Just choose a hotel with a chilled pool. You can relax in the day and sight see in the evening but most attractions are indoors.

TheHulksPurplePants · 08/04/2018 11:00

It's going to be 45 degrees+ everyday, so you don't want to do anything that takes you away from the vicinity of a chilled pool or outdoors. That said, there are indoor theme parks and the pools are all chilled. You'll want to stay in the Jumeriah, Business Bay, Palm Dubai area.

Thank you. Hope to be going with two teenagers so would the water park be a good one to do?

Wild Wadi or Aquaventure will be fine. Just try to get their earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid the hottest part of the day. Also you won't be able to walk barefoot ANYWHERE. So invest in some pool shoes.

PestoSurfissimos · 08/04/2018 11:16

I went in June a couple of years ago with teenage DD’s for the sole purpose of doing the Aquaventure water park at Atlantis. We had 3 full days in the water. Temp was 47°C so you can’t sit out, but as long as you are in the water the whole time with rash vests it is doable.

TheHulksPurplePants · 08/04/2018 11:19

but as long as you are in the water the whole time with rash vests it is doable.

Yes, second the rash vests. My two live in them at the waterparks in the summer.

PestoSurfissimos · 08/04/2018 11:19

Re: pool shoes, you can’t wear them on the slides. So, we wore flip flops and then wore these round our wrists when on the slides. Don’t wait until you get there to buy them though, in Aquaventure these cost £60.00 - eyewatering Grin

MardAsSnails · 08/04/2018 11:22

It's Ramadan til mid June, which will affect your holiday if it go then. Approx 14-17 June will be extortionate rated as it's Eid. It's relaxed a bit in recent years but I would still not consider traveling here during Ramadan.

Regarding temperature, it's fucking hot. But if you're sensible and careful it'll be fine.

TheHulksPurplePants · 08/04/2018 11:22

There's actually great pool shoes made here in the UAE. Fairly cheap too and you'll find them at any of the sports stores:

www.mumzworld.com/en/coega-sunwear-slip-resistant-swim-shoes-navy

You can wear these on the slides or anywhere.

PestoSurfissimos · 08/04/2018 11:23

We came during Ramadan & it was fine, just a whole lot cheaper 🙂

TheHulksPurplePants · 08/04/2018 11:24

Not really. The food courts in the malls are still open, hotels are allowed to serve by the pools and the restaurants at the theme parks will all be open. The hotel prices will be higher at Eid though.

JoandMax · 08/04/2018 11:25

It will be very hot but still fine to be in the pool or do water parks - also recommend a rash vest!

Ramadan will be first couple of weeks but it doesn’t limit you too much anymore in Dubai

MsGameandWatching · 08/04/2018 11:26

I spend a lot of time in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. It's doable in June. You'll walk out of the airport and gasp at how hot it is but you do get used to it. The key is to be close to a pool to keep you cool and your body regulates itself after being cold etc. I'd go at that time of year again but my younger kids hated it. Older and healthy and you'll be fine.

TheHulksPurplePants · 08/04/2018 11:29

You'll walk out of the airport and gasp at how hot it is

And your sunglasses will immediately fog up from the humidity and you'll stumble around blind for a minute. Grin

Dubai in the summer is the weird sensation of living in a hot, wet oven.

pilates · 08/04/2018 12:26

Thanks everyone. So will Ramadan be cheaper or more expensive time to go?

OP posts:
PestoSurfissimos · 08/04/2018 12:32

It’s cheaper because of the restrictions

TheHulksPurplePants · 08/04/2018 12:57

Cheaper. Although not as cheap as it used to be, because most of the restrictions are gone.

bellsbuss · 08/04/2018 13:44

June is hot buts it's not unbearable, If you are going with children I would suggest the jumeriah beach area. Look for hotels which are offering free half board or pay extra for a club room as it gives you lots of extras like breakfast , afternoon tea , free soft drinks and a 2 hour period in the evening with free alcohol. It is eye watering expensive there. A beer is £10 a coke is £4 !!

pilates · 08/04/2018 13:48

Ok thanks.

Can you just confirm you need to cover arms and legs when you go outside the hotel but you can drink alcohol in a restaurant attached to hotel. What else do I need to know?

OP posts:
JoandMax · 08/04/2018 17:00

No need to cover arms and legs when you leave the hotel - only a few government offices where that’s required.

I’d take a pashmina if you go to a mall, partly for covering shoulders and partly they always feel freezing after you’ve been outside!

Yes alcohol is served in all hotels

MsGameandWatching · 08/04/2018 17:21

Personally I prefer not to wear short shorts or strappy tops/sundresses. I have been stared at wearing those and felt uncomfortable. Agree always take a pashmina or light cardigan as it does get chilly.

Book a brunch at a hotel on a Friday. They're absolutely amazing 😊.

BalloonFlowers · 08/04/2018 17:42

June is better than July and August.......
It's HOT like you can't imagine HOT.
Look for a chilled pool, and consider doing stuff inside for some of the time.

Personally, I'd cover shoulders and knees when not in a hotel. But many don't. (I only visit Dubai from a more conservative place). Do opening hours change over Ramadan? We get stuff closed for the morning, opening about 3pm, and staying open til well past midnight.

If you are thinking of us I g the metro to get around, stay very close to a station! Or stay at Atlanta's, and just use that water park! But Jumeriah would be good. We stayed in the financial area, but headed towards Dubai mall most days (younger kids than you).

TheHulksPurplePants · 08/04/2018 19:56

"Can you just confirm you need to cover arms and legs when you go outside the hotel but you can drink alcohol in a restaurant attached to hotel. What else do I need to know?

No and no.
If you come during Ramadan I would make sure are not to wear tank tops or shorts above the knee, but that's because i'm old school and have been here too long. If you stick to tourist areas you will be fine no matter what you wear.
Quite a few restaurants serve booze outside the hotels, though that may me limited to after iftar during ramadan

pilates · 08/04/2018 21:27

Thanks for the tips. I think it will be just after Ramadam finishes.
