Where to go in Italy?

Hi

Could anyone suggest a nice place to visit for a week in Italy? There will be a few of us, and different ages. One has a lung issue which means avoiding massively steep areas or pollution. On a personal level, I'm a bit bothered by the idea of earthquakes and volcanoes in the central region. We're all keen on nice architecture and old piazzas etc. Near the sea would be nice though not essential.

Thank you.

My vote is for Tuscany..siena, pienza, montepulciano, Montalcino area

Yes I would also suggest Tuscany. Siena and or Florence and then day trips out into the Chianti region. Divine.

I'd suggest somewhere around Lake Garda. It's populated by a large number of medieval castles, the most famous being Castello degli Scaliger in Sirmione. There are also several gorgeous roman villas with beautiful gardens dotted around the lake and a few sites with roman ruins.
Gardaland is without a doubt Italy's best theme park with thrill rides and family favourites. CanevaWorld has a brilliant water park, medieval shows and MovieLand studios. Parco Natura Viva has a brilliant safari park
There's a nice cable car ride at Monte Baldo that is a good way to see the views of the lake.
The water of Lake Garda is clean, clear and fresh and just the tonic on a hot day. There are beaches in all the towns around the lake, each with their own unique atmosphere, each with different different things going on. Some are very quiet where you can just lay out and relax and top up your tan, maybe a dive off the jetty when you need to cool down; some with water-sports, pedalo’s and kayaks, and some with music bars if you fancy it a bit more lively. My personal favourites areSalo where at the end of the day I like to sip my apertivo and watch the sun slip down behind the mountains, or Portese, which has a pretty little port and a fantastic fish restaurant.
Verona is easily accessible for a day trip either by train or car.

Agree with one of the lakes. Como is quieter than the other main 2, Garda more family orientated, Maggiore a bit more sophisticated and scenic. Milan is an easy trip from lakes Como and Maggiore, Verona from Garda. There were devastating earthquakes 2 years ago in Umbria, so best avoid there if it bothers you. In Tuscany you could head for one of the spa towns and take trips into Florence, Siena etc or go to Elba for the coast.

Elba is lovely as is lake Garda and Maggiore.
