Sintra and Cascais are lovely places to visit outside of Lisbon (you can do them both by public transport). We did a tuk-tuk tour around Lisbon which we enjoyed ... it's very hilly with cobbled streets. BAIRRO ALTO is the main lively restaurant area of Lisbon but doesn't really liven up until around 10.30pm.

There are a few Fado music restaurants but we liked Tasca do Chico which was a small bar.

We did eat out at a lovely restaurant off the beaten track one lunchtime (gets really busy with business people) www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g189158-d3802502-Reviews-Quermesse_Restaurante-Lisbon_Lisbon_District_Central_Portugal.html

Lisbon is lovely and usually warm at this time of year.

We went in Oct half term for a city break staying centrally with our 10 and 12 year olds. Fabulous place, really pretty, vibrant and relatively good value for money! It was very warm so were able to eat outside in pavement restaurants in the evening. Walked everywhere, just did a few tram/furnicular trips for the experience ;)

The Timeout market was great, wish we had spent more time there and had also planned to eat whilst visiting.

We did all the the usual things like a Tuk Tuk tour, easy train journey to Cascais then walked to Estoril along coastal promenade (15-20 mins I think) and trained it back to central Lisbon.

Favourite thing to do was hiring bikes in the centre and riding along next to the river down to Belem. You didn’t have to go on the roads, cycle path all the way, fine for inexperienced cyclists. Probably took an hour to get there, great views of the Tejo and Cristo Del Rei.

Of course don’t forget to eat as many pastel de nata as you can, we sampled extensively and did’t find any we didn’t like Grin

Love Lisbon! Definitely the pasteis de nata in any of the little coffee shops in the new part of town. We also did the bus tour which is a good way to get your bearings and decide what you'd like to see more of. The Gulbenkian museum is worth a visit. We had an excellent meal at Sessenta, highly recommended.

Lots of lovely ideas!
Any unmissable sights?

View from the Castelo Sao Jorge. The Jeronimos in Belem is just stunning if you like cathedrals, especially the cloisters and it is very close to the original home of Pasteis de Nata.
We also liked the Gulbenkian - if you like art it’s a gem of a collection.

Cascais and Sintra are great if you have time.

I want to go back.

Thanks Bestis, glad to hear it!
Am a little worried that the weather is going to be better here than there, so good to have a few inside things to do, in case it rains!

Take good walking shoes, it's very hilly. Also if it's wet it can get slippier than normal tarmac.

Second the Time Out Market, great atmosphere and food.

The National Pantheon is impressive, with some fantastic views from the top.

Enjoy Lisboa it's a brilliant place :)
