Anywhere to guarantee snow in September (within europe)?

Have a visitor to the UK in September who has never experienced snow. Would really love to be able to go for a long weekend somewhere (build a snowman, make snow angels - skiing not required!).
Have looked at where in the alps etc there are glaciers, but does anyone have any actual experience of being somewhere in September that will give me the 'perfect winter picture' that is in my head - or am I clutching at straws?

Not a chance. Sorry

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/04/2018 17:31

I'm afraid not.

Well you could go to Wengen in Switzerland and go up the Jungfrau. Expensive but gorgeous when it is sunny. But you couldn’t guarantee the weather.

Scotland probably, based on the sodding awful winter we have had

Agree with the pp jungfrau is spectacular and Grindlewald is lovely for a weekend base. We went at the beginning of October and it was perfect blue skies, gorgeous views and plent'y of snow however you take a risk with the weather. Friend's went and the weather was so bad you couldn't go outside and equally couldnt see put the windows.

You could also try Zermatt (which boasts you can ski every day of the year) and Saas Fee - which has an ice grotto, revolving restaurant etc.

Thank you so much. You have given me a little ray of hope. I will start researching on those places.

Hintertux in Austria has snow all year round:

We went end May, very sunny on the ground, snow for skiing at the top (not beginner). Also an ice palace:

Not so much for snowmen but snow. Stayed here, excellent for kids, massive trampoline and playground:

North Norway/Finland etc?

Anywhere with a glacier accessible by rail or cable car, ie. Zermatt, Saas Fee, Engelberg, Jungfraujoch, Les Diablerets, Chamonix, Tignes, Hintertux, Solden, Obertauern, Kaprun.

Iceland?

When we went to Hintertux the snow was more for professional skiers than for playing but you had the scenery and taking a boat under the mountain was amazing at the ice palace. My daughter went skiing but there were no beginners slopes.
