Please help suggest places to go abroad that aren't beach holidays

I'm going alone with 3 dc, 11,12, 14. In previous years we have been to Turkey but are fed up with the sameness of it all. We never go to the beaches as they have been dirty and crowded so tended to stay by the pool or go on day trips.
We have also found the beach culture holidays not really our cup of tea, but I haven't got much money and have never driven abroad so my options have been limited.
Do holidays exist that are away from beaches but don't need a car? Or am I forever doomed?
If you have any idea please share, please!

Amsterdam and the Canter Parcs near by, all doable by train.

OP, you can get lessons designed to help you learn to drive in the right.

It becomes second nature very quickly, but I understand that hiring a car and setting off in an unfamiliar car with 3 kids in the back is not the best way to boost your confidence. Google lessons for driving on the right / on the wrong side of the road. I found a couple of courses but I found a couple of courses in London.

HAve you considered portugal rather than turkey? You can fly to Porto which is itself is a lovely small city but still interesting. The beach is close by as well so you could do both city and beach. I went there for a long weekend and loved it.

That’s a great idea about the driving lessons. I am an experienced and confident driver usually and everyone says it’s easy once you’ve done it once. It would open up so many more options.
I’ll check out Porto thank you.

As you like Lyon, why not get the Eurostar direct to there? It's not expensive if you can choose which day to go (a random check travelling on a Monday in August comes up as £226 for the lot of you). Then maybe get a train to Paris for a couple of days before getting the Eurostar back again (definitely preferable to returning for Lyon via Lille).

Also, I've never found a problem driving in France - Just remember to set off on the correct side of the road first thing in the morning! If you're not in a rush, you don't have to take any risks, and Waze should be able to help you navigate.

The French have just launched 3 months of extensive rail strikes, should go to end June:

The driving in France isn't bad outside Paris though they do allow banned drivers to drive slower vehicles - these are the ones you need to watch out for: www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-35210572[confused]

Eurocamp may do transfer included to some sites around Garda? But I think you mentioned that your kids may not like the sites with other families around?

Would you consider Rome? There is a site called Camp Fabulous.. it is truly fabulous ;) they run a bus from the airport to the site and back which is very reasonable. There is public transport into the city centre from outside the park. You can get to Ostica (amazing ruins) by taking the bus the other way. They also do trips to other places from the site (pompeii etc) Easyjet or Ryanair for cheap flights.
Hope you have a brilliant holiday wherever you end up!

That sounds amazing, one to keep in mind.
Marrakech is on the cards. 14 year old DD said she would be happy to go. I thought she wouldn't 18 year old DS wants to come but he will have to fund himself , we went a couple ago and loved it. So i will hopefully have another adult with me which makes it a completely different holiday experience.
I have wanted to return from the moment i was on the plane back home
