Just looking for ideas for the future! With 8 year old in tow...perhaps a bit of a treat/splurge holiday :-)

What has been your favourite destination or type of holiday and where is your dream destination?

Thanks!

Our favourite was Sicily. Amazing food, beaches, really relaxing.

When the DC are older we're planning trips to Japan and Canada.

Our favourite pre-children holidays were Vietnam and the trans Siberian railway. I'd love to take the kids on the trans Siberian but not until they're much older.

we were talking about this over Easter lunch. DCs have been on many holidays with me and separately with their DF so well-holidayed.

Their favourite ? Camping with the GPs in the Scottish Highlands. Best with me were the skiing holidays. Didn't enjoy the luxury beach holidays with their DF and SM - boring. They were a bit meh about Disney.

Don’t do a Disney cruise!! My DCs were not into Disney because we did other things that were actually exciting. They went to India looking for tigers. They saw tarantula spiders in Ecuador, giant crocodiles in Kenya. They learnt to ski. They tasted great food in Hong Kong. They trekked to the sun gate at Machu Pitchu. They swam with seals in the Galápagos Islands and with Turtles in the BVIs. I really don’t understand why the American culture of Disney gets any attention when there is so much more to do.

We have spent a lot on holidays and I don’t regret a penny of it.

Couldn't agree more.

We are currently skiing and my DD's are bullying me down the ungroomed black runs. It's such a fantastic family holiday.

Also agree on camping. The kids love it.

UK - Bamburgh
Europe - Sardinia, the people, the food, the beaches
Longhaul - Thailand or California.

For us, Northumbria and The Netherlands were brilliant with younger children.

I think that both of my children would agree that walking in the mountains and swimming in the lake in The Alps is one of their favourite trips, which we do most years.

I'm glad that Cape Cod has had a mention as that is our plan this year, and Namibia the year after... can't wait!

Long haul...NZ and Fiji with 3 and 10 year old and also Cape Town
Short haul...Marbella and its hinterland

ShanghaiDiva · 10/04/2018 06:19

I think NZ for the wildlife - whale watching, seal colonies and watching the Penguins come back to the shore in the early evening in Omaru.
Also had some lovely holidays in rented houses in the Netherlands.

Canada hands down.

My son is only 5 but I’ve already planned holidays for when he’s this age. Grin
Yukaton in Mexico - exploring cenotes and jungle ruins, snorkelling/dying, amazing wildlife and food. We went pre kids and can’t wait to go back but waiting till he is 8ish to appreciate it.
Also summer adventure in Morzine. Cycling, canyoning, hiking, white water rafting, etc.

We’ve so far took him on ski holidays, camping in Europe and Asia - Hong Kong, Seoul and Singapore. All great holidays for kids any age.

I’d love to do a Disney cruise too maybe combined with a lazy US beach holiday. Smile

California was our favourite! Loved South Africa too but that was pre kids. Short haul we loved Elba. Lake Garda and Majorca.
