Have been looking at afternoon tea at Harrods or a meal on one of the boats on the Thames - has anyone done either of these? Or have any other recommendations please?

Only in London for a day - hoping to organise something fro my dh's birthday while we're there

What station will you be arriving at, London is a big place but it's pretty easy to get around on the underground. What sort of things does your dh like doing. I wouldn't go to Harrods, there are far nicer places for afternoon tea but you do have to book up well in advance.

Ah thanks - we have been before & my dh has a great sense of direction (unlike me 😬) I'm not sure but I think it's Euston we travelling to.

Where would you recommend for afternoon tea?

I went to Claridges once for afternoon tea. NB it was quite a few years ago, but it was a beautiful room and a lovely generous tea.

It's West End, so it's not right next to Euston but not that far to travel.

Afternoon tea at The Swan, next to the Globe Theatre and a few mins walk from Tate Modern, Millenium Bridge if you're interested in any of those. Fortnum & Mason is a real luxury and The Cafe Royal is lovely too, both F&M and CR are easy to get to from Euston.. what sort of things do you want to do for the rest of the day

Ooh thanks lots of places to look at.

Not sure about the rest of the day really - the Sky gardens have been suggested as an alternative to the Shard (which I wasn't sure if my dh would like-the Shard not the Sky gardens)
We're going in May which is after his birthday so if I end up booking something we can work the rest of the day around it I guess

The sky garden is good, you have to book an hours free visit well in advance though but worth it, it's in the city so a bit away from Euston, do you have to pay to go up the shard,

I've looked at booking for the Sky Gardens but they only release the tickets a week in advance so will have to wait for that
