Considering touring the south Brittany Coast from Trinite Sur Mer down as far as Ile de Re. Does anybody have any experience of the general weather for the last two weeks in July? I'm nervous it will be dull and overcast....

We've been further north in Brittany early August and it was gorgeous weather nearly all of the time...sometimes as hot as 30!...certainly warm enough for shorts and t shirts and swimming in outdoor pool at the gite we were staying at...also been late May / early June and also had great weather - no rain!

It can be lovely - it can also be cold and gloomy!

Generally speaking, though, we had lovely summer holidays in Southern Brittany, spending many days on the beach.

You just need to realise it's never going to be a predictable as going somewhere like the Caribbean.

It can be mixed. Probably won't be blistering hot so that made it a good holiday choice for us when the children were younger. Do go though - it is absolutely beautiful.

Moi aussi!

Lovely to hear positive reviews!! I guess as it's a two week break it will surely have some sunshine!!! Really interested in the area as a.destination with the pretty villages and coastline...we will be travelling from Scotland so definitely not wanting any kind of low level drizzle that we are used to in the summer.

If you do go, I really strongly recommend at least a day in Normoutier. A lovely island that you reach via an incredible road bridge. It has the sweetest aquarium and salt flats and a beautiful, old, traditional town. We have the happiest memories of our time there and I will go back some time.

We have been going to south Brittany mid July for 12 years, and we have only had two dud years for weather - one of them was last summer!

There have been about two other years where it was a bit mixed, otherwise it has always been fab.

Could be amazing, could be totally shit. I'd bank on one week of shit and one week of good. Ime it mirrors the se of England but +2/3 degrees. We have a mobile a bit further south - if you want good weather you have to go way south.

Runningtothesea · 24/03/2018 07:05

I'll put Normoutier on my must see list. I guess if we lower our expectations, then good weather will be a bonus.

When the sun shines it is beautiful but it can also be cold and rainy. We had three holidays there in early August in recent years and the unpredictable weather was the only bad but really. We were slightly further north than you but I don’t think it makes that much difference.

It is beautiful, lovely food and wine, and there are some very quiet beaches though, so on balance I’d say it’s worth it.

I live near Vannes and find the summers here too hot for me (I'm from Yorkshire though) it's often over 30 degrees in June/July/August. We've been here since 2004 & I've had aircon put in my bedroom I'm so sick of the heat. Have a lovely time Smile

For the best weather you need to get south of the Loire. Vendee coast and Il de Ré have fantastic weather at that time of year.
