Would you fly longhaul with Norwegian Air UK

I'm an okay flyer but have never flown longer than 5 hours. I'm going to America from the UK in the summer and found very cheap flights with Norwegian Air UK.

Would you fly longhaul with them? They seem so cheap it's got me a bit worried.

I've flown Gatwick to OAK on a Dreamliner and it was fine. Prebooked seats, etc as flying with dc. Even the major airlines are so no frills these days that I hardly notice the difference in economy anyway. I fly mostly long haul. They definitely had in seat entertainment as HOURS of movies were watched by dc Blush. The lower altitude cabin pressure on the Dreamliner really did make me feel better though.

monger I’ve flown Norwegian Edinburgh-providence several times, I can assure you that it was not a Dreamliner. DD is going on Friday, I’m sure she will notice if it is suddenly a much bigger plane! They fly the 737 Max on some transatlantic flights, it is not obvious from their promotional material, but I can assure you it’s true. I doubt that Providence could handle a bigger plane, it’s a tiny airport by international standards.

We flew the 737 max from Edinburgh to NYC and I thought it was great for the money-would def do it again. Just had plenty on my iPad and it was fine. Leg wasn’t too bad as the seats were slim like the Ryanair/easyJet ones which gave a bit of extra space. That was quite a small plane though so did feel a bit cramped but it was so cheap so I wasn’t caring about that that much.

I’ve flown to the states with them, would definitely recommend. Their premium class is brilliant, about half the price of BA premium economy and you get lots of extras like fast track security and lounge access that are usually only available in business class. I’d compare it to flying first class on an American domestic flight. Seat was comfy, we had an entertainment screen, food was fine, my vegetarian meal wasn’t anything to write home about but was perfectly edible. Friends have done the economy low fare option and rate it for the price.

The legacy carriers (BA, AA, United etc.) are so shit these days unless you pay for business/first that there’s no way in a million years I’d pay more for the same route to travel with them instead!

Sorry. It was Gatwick to NY and it was Norwegian and it was not a Dreamliner.

DH and I would, and do, pay a premium to avoid Gatwick! Heathrow is a lot more convenient and I prefer BA club. A cheap flight from Heathrow on a Dreamliner might be an attractive proposition though!

I flew from Gatwick to Los Angeles with Norwegian last year, as others have said it really is no frills, make sure you factor in extra costs for hold luggage and food, but even then I thought it was good value, perfectly comfortable and safe...

Interesting thread op I have been amazed by the low prices of this airline I never thought I would be able to access us on our budget but I priced up four of us about 1300 over Easter. Not going anywhere at moment but hopefully the pch San Francisco, to la soon.

I am updating this as we have just collected DD from Gatwick after her “Norwegian” flight from NY. Except her flight should have arrived yesterday. It was cancelled. The flight wasn’t operated by Norwegian either. It was a plane operated by someone else we had never heard of. I would imagine their aircraft wasn’t available, so they leased this one. Although it said this flight wasn’t operated by them when we booked so who knows?

It should have arrived at 23.25 yesterday and she arrived at 7.50 am this morning. They gave a $15 voucher for food and drink at JFK. They closed the check in desk at 2.30 pm - 5 hours before the flight actually left. She had no text or email saying the booked flight was cancelled.

There was no hot water on the plane. No hot drinks. No water in the toilets. There was bottled water to wash your hands. Everyone was complaining and lots of people missed connecting flights. In short, it was a shambles.

The price of this flight was £100 cheaper than BA. I would never, ever, book with them again after this. Totally unreliable and, as before, a crappy plane. It wasn’t even theirs! I think the earlier flight was half empty so they amalgamated the morning and evening flights. They have one of the worst records for punctuality. I can see why! You take a risk booking with them.

NotDavidTennant · 02/04/2018 11:51

Flights from the UK to the Northeast US are just within range of short-haul planes like 737s, so that's what the no frills carriers use. For a longer haul destination like LAX you won't get a 737.

grandplans · 02/04/2018 11:57

This is just the thread I need! Looking at a Norwegian Air flight.

MickHucknallspinkpancakes · 02/04/2018 12:18

I would, but only the premium flex category.

When I compared the price of these seats to premium economy with BA (I had to add a connecting flight from my country to London) BA actually came up with a better price for me, and better flexibility on flight times.

Make sure you cash everything up to make a true comparison op.

Basic prices are incredible though.

BubblesBuddy · 02/04/2018 16:07

It really depends on how much you need to rely on punctuality. If you don’t, and don’t mind being messed around, it’s a value price, but for £100 difference and a T5 departure/arrival with BA, I know what I would do.

Curlybrunette · 02/04/2018 17:00

We came back from LA with them last October, they were brilliant. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. The flight was £145 each, we didn't pay to pre-book seats as it was a night flight to DH and I decided we would risk not being sat together as we'd hopefully sleep a lot of the journey. We did get sat together which was good.

I had read reviews that the food was a bit dodgy so we didn't prebook food either, I thought £25 was too much. Instead we ate at LAX and then I bought a sandwich to take on with me.

We had seatback entertainment, with a decent range of movies, polite staff, no delays.

Very happy :-)

Enjoy your trip
