California Advice

Not posted in travel before so hello!

We are doing a road trip of Californina in August, me dh, dd (14) and ds (11).

Car and accommodation are booked, just want to make sure that we see the best sights, eat at the best places so any top tips or suggestions gratefully received.

We are in San Francisco for 4 days and will do the obvious (Fisherman’s Wharf, Alcatraz, trams maybe cycle across Golden Gate Bridge)

We then drive to Yosemite for 3 days, then on to Monterey/Carmel for 2 days (maybe whale watching), then on to Santa Barbara for 4 days, Hollywood for 3 days (booked VIP tour of Universal) and then last stop Newport Beach for some R and R.

I second the walk across Crissy Fields and the Presidio in San Francisco. The view of the Golden Gate Bridge from the national parks hut at Crissy Fields is great. Our kids also loved the exploratorium - they could have happily moved in!
If you have a chance to go up into the high country in Yosemite I would massively recommend it. Head up to Olmstead Point for a view of the back of half dome and then head on to Tenaya Lake for swimming. The sequoias are also awesome.
Santa Barbara is wonderful - there is a really good coach outlet on the Main Street which I wish I had done more justice to!

And Cambria too as recommended above - linns for dinner was amazing! The sunset at moonstone beach was also pretty special.
