Legoland 2018

Legoland only re-opened on Friday so it's not surprising that the "official"
hints & tips thread for 2018 hasn't started. We went today so, as an old hand, I thought I'd post a quick summary - which mainly relates to how many rides are shut!
Raft racers, Vikings river splash, the splash park, the Pirate show & Friends show are all closed (as they are at this time of year). Also shut was the Hill Train (still!!), the green train (whose official ride name I've forgotten) and Spinning Spiders. Squid Surfer only had one half open so the queue was long. The Ninjago ride shut from time to time which was frustrating and the sensors in our "car" stopped intermittently which was frustrating. I find that ride underwhelming so at least want it to work!
We went to the new Lego Reef which was an anticlimax as you need to be able to use one of the iPads in there to do it but there were only about a dozen of them & no queuing system or anything.
We did have a good day with some surprisingly short queues for things like Driving School and the log flume but I felt that we didn't make the most of our time as the queue app wasn't working& there was little to say which rides were shut.
The other thing to note is that the path which goes right from the top down past Star Wars & Viking Falls is shut so everyone is siphoned down to Miniland which reduces how quickly you can get down to the Dragon & that area.

Managed to get the Times 2 tickets for £12 (its actually £13.50) for 10 of us (5 different people applied) so we are chuffed to bits. Going in the summer holidays so it will be rammed but at that price I don't mind if we only get on a few rides. We can watch the shows and wander around too.
Anyone got any advice on which area to head to first to get most out of the first hour before it gets too busy?

onemouseplace · 16/07/2018 15:06

We've also got the Times 2 tickets for £12 for 4 of us, but still need to get a ticket for our 3 year old. Anyone know any deals for single tickets? We've run out of adults so can't just get another 2 tickets for the Times offer but only use one.

Still pleased as we're going August Bank Holiday weekend for DC2's birthday and even if we have to pay full price for the last ticket, it's still a bargain.

We went last Sunday and Monday. Stayed at Copthorne Hotel which was fine although quite busy. I didn't bother with QBot as had paid for 2 days although I reckon with it you may be able to do whole park in a day if you are determined. If you pay top whack I think you go straight into ride, whereas with lower levels you get to select a time to go on ride. You still have to queue but in a separate section so you jump ahead of others.

We arrived at lunchtime on Sunday and it was super busy. We ate in a queue for the fab pirate log boat ride. I got soaked and lost a hat so be warned! We also waited at least 50 mins for that ride. At other rides as we were only 2, we were often pulled up to the front to fill in spaces.

Park shuts at 6 but we were happily in the shop until 620.

Next morning we were there before opening time. You can only go to Miniland but its lovely for a wander around and there are loads of green areas for picnics later. I found navigation an issue as the signposts are lacking. Could just be me though. We ran into the park at 10am having planned our route that morning in order to get as much done as possible and did the Jolly Roger Pirate ship and then ran to the log ride, and queues were minimal. We also managed both the Driver school and Coastguard HQ, Submarine, Spinning Spider, and a look at the Reef before we left at 1230. Pretty good going however it was much quieter than on Sunday.

Legoland Hotel looks plasticy but Castle Hotel looks amazing. Staff were all friendly and pleasant. Food prices were not too awful - I saw a hotdog, chips and a drink for 6.50. Drinks prices are shocking. Take your own. There are water fountains near Toilets at entrance.
Ziplock bag for phone/wallet on water rides although sometimes you can dump your bag at the front of ride to retrieve later.

Car parking is easy and not worth the extra for being closer.

We had a great 2 days and really enjoyed it. Not a wasp in sight !!

I rang the times to ask them about the whole single ticket issue (didn't want to pay the £47 just for my husband) I said can I use the codes twice and they said yes as long as it's a different postcode and email address.

If you read the terms and conditions it does say that this is ok but doesn't actually work in practice. When I rang them back they suggested swapping codes with someone else and trying to use their codes and vice versa as we'd have a diff email and postcode. They said you do have to clear your internet cache first though.

So anyone up for trying it?

We are considering our first trip, ds Is 5. What is the cheapest way for one child and 2 adults to do it We have a Kelloggs voucher which I think gets one adult in free ? As we will be going during the summer holidays are any days generally quieter ?

leghairdontcare · 27/07/2018 21:57

I'm off with tuesdays - 2 adults, a 4 year old and a 5 year old. I've made a small list of things we want to do - does this seem realistic in one day?

Coast Guard HQ
L Drivers
Fire Academy
Duplo Train
Raft Racers
Submarine Voyage
Laser Raiders
Desert Chase
Treasure Quest
Pirate Goldrush

And then time in splash parks (if weather allows) and play areas.

Wheres the best place for lunch? Looking for fast food

donkeysandzebras · 01/08/2018 23:32

We're local with annual passes and don't tend to go in the summer holidays as it is so busy but, having heard rumours it had been quiet this week, went and had a great time.
Parked around 9.30 and went straight in and down to miniland where they hold you until 10am when the rides open. We went straight to Squid Surfer which we did three consecutive times before going to Driving School which had a 25 min wait and that was an extra delay due to them having to stop the ride for a few minutes. Then we did the fire engines (10 min wait) & then over to the Dragon which was our longest queue at 40mins.
Coming of the Dragon conveniently coincided with the Pirate Show starting so we had lunch in front of that, then went to Laiser Raiders which was a 30 min queue followed by Scarab Bouncers (5 mins) & the chairs (5 mins), then over to the Jolly Rocker (20 mins) a bit of time in the play area and then Viking Falls (20 mins). We were back in the car at 2.45pm.
The flume had queues of 90 mins at some points and two or three of the others were showing 45mins + on the app but loads only had 5 - 15 min queues. Just check the app regularly and be flexible with where you're going when. We find it works best to spread the long queue rides out during the day as it's during the queues that the DC get irritable.
The park itself was really busy but that's because there were loads of people standing around looking at maps discussing what to do next, looking at the models (throughout the park, not just miniland).
As for food, we tend to take a picnic and eat it watching a show and in the queues. If we do buy food there, we tend to go to one of the stalls rather than into a restaurant as the restaurants are just fairly grim and expensive for what they are.

leghairdontcare · 02/08/2018 11:17

So we went and we were able to get a ride access pass for my son who had ASD. I don't think we would have managed with the queues otherwise.

We did Laser Raiders 3 times. The longest queue was for the pirate flume which was an hour and fifteen minutes.

We were not very prepared in terms of taking food and drink with us so spent about £50 throughout the day. We did get buy one get one free on tickets though so had already saved money in that respect.

It's a brilliant day out though and we'll definitely go again.

onemouseplace · 07/08/2018 15:48

Managed to get DD2 a single ticket for £30 (annoyingly half the day price of £60 rather than half the advance price of £47) with O2 priority so happy enough with that (especially as the rest of us are dirt cheap with the Times Offer).

I was a tit though and didn't realise that the Times 30% off Qbots offer expired when the ticket offer did - so missed that. Anyone know of any other Qbot offers/ discounts?

brummiesue · 20/09/2018 22:32

Just looked online and it says the driving school is for 6yrs + and this is checked. I have a very tall (6-7 clothes) 5.5yr old who would love it, are they likely to pick it out or ask him his age? Think he would say 6 with some prompting but not 100% sure.

TheCatFromOuterSpace · 21/09/2018 22:30

Thanks for all of the tips. We've got non transferable tickets for this Sunday, but there is a weather warning for heavy rain. Should we still go? It's an hour and a half drive away.

PaulMorel · 28/09/2018 09:20

This is also a nice idea! Would love to take my kids to Legoland. Thanks for all the tips and recommendations.

TheCatFromOuterSpace · 28/09/2018 13:26

We went last Sunday in the rain and it was fine. We noticed that different rides had queues at different times, so if there was a big queue for anything we skipped it and went back to some rides later. The best plan seemed to be to start at the far end of the park (Atlantis ride) then work our way back.

Mrssampras · 01/10/2018 21:22

Legoland with baby, 3 yo and 5.5 yo.

I’m wondering about doing legoland but my dh can’t come, so it would be me with three kids, which I am fine with, but, I’m not sure whether we would be able to get on enough rides, as either we would all have to go on each one, or i d have to hope 5.5 yo and 3 yo could go on enough themselves?? Any ideas? Baby is 7 months.

Whosafraidofvirginiawoofwoof · 01/10/2018 21:40

Not sure it will work very easily for you. You'd have accompany your 3yo whilst bringing the baby, who would only be able to go on a few rides, e.g. the Coast Guard HQ and the Fairytale Brook (and the playground). I'm not sure about your 5yo. Mine is 4.5 and needs to be accompanied on everything that he can go on. Some of the rides are only 2 seaters in a carriage (so, for e.g., it would be tricky for you to get on with baby on sling, and also accompany your 3yo and 5 yo). They do have a family queuing system where an adult can stay on the ride and switch in the kids (rather than queue again) but you'd need another adult to stay with the ones that don't get on the ride.

TheCatFromOuterSpace · 02/10/2018 08:27

Mrs a lot of rides you had to be 1.2m to go on without an adult, so even my 5 year old couldn't go on alone. I would wait till your dh can come, or see if you can take a friend.
