Holiday parks with lakes?

I really like UK holiday parks for the convenience but does anyone know of anywhere with lakes or streams etc that we can paddle or swim in? We love wild swimming and it would be perfect to find something like that on site. I know there are lots with fishing lakes but generally these are out of bounds.

Watching with interest as I would like similar. A friend recommended this www.tyncornelcamping.co.uk/activities/wild-swimming/ but that is camping.

I think that there is a place in cornwall called Little white Alice which has a natural outdoor pool. there is also something in devon with camping. There is a seapool at Bude and another at Plymouth which fills up and drains with the tide. its a bit safer to swim in these especially if you have young children. h and s is the reason why so many places with a lake or river frontage wont let you swim or even paddle in it.

It's not quite a holiday park but the National Trust campsite on Lake Windermere has glamping and camping pod options and is right on the lake shore. There are loads of facilities on site so it's not like staying in an old school campsite with muddy fields and manky cold toilet blocks. I went there a couple of years ago (though in our own tent as I'm too tight to pay for glamping) and loved it.

I think proper holiday parks will get a bit worried at the idea of wild swimming - there are too many factors out of their control so potentially a lot of opportunity for someone to sue them.

Fforest fields in mid wales has separate swimming and fishing lakes. We spend most of our time in the lake! They are mostly camping, but have a few lovely glamping yurts.

I'd like to find more places I can wild swim on holiday though Smile

Thanks @mummymeister. Yeah, you’re right. I wonder if natural-looking but man-made pools might be our best bet.

@CMOTDibbler Oh we love Wales. Do they let you in the the lakes then?

Not in the fishing lake, but in the other lake it's positively encouraged Smile - the local tri club even train there

I’ve just had a look at they have holiday cottages too and a farm! Good find, thank you!

Cotswold water park

CMOTDibbler · 11/03/2018 17:05

Most of the lakes at Cotswold water park you can only swim at very limited (early!) times. Lake 86 does have all day swimming, but it's very much up and down - lovely if you are training, but not so wild swimming feel.

mintich · 11/03/2018 21:37

You used to be able to swim all day at the Cotswold park beach, just next to the lakes, not sure if you can now

Hotdoggity · 11/03/2018 21:41

I think we might go for Fforest Fields. Thank you!

The beach has a childrens sort of paddling lagoon, but not enough for adults to swim in. On a nice day its totally heaving

Have a lovely time at FF - we love it there, and its a brilliant atmosphere
