Germany- long weekend advice please

Good evening
I am mum to a ten year old son with Aspergers. He is absolutely fascinated by the World Wars and has been researching Germany and its history in great detail.

As it would be too much for him to go in his school residential in July(5days) I've promised him a long weekend in Germany. We could fly out on the Thursday night or Friday morning and would need to be back Sunday evening.

Does anyone have any recommendations please ? Berlin, Munich or elsewhere . He's desperate to visit a museum. I would like to squeeze in some sites, shopping and cultural food if possible too. I don't drive so I'll need to keep that in mind.

Thanks in advance

Does he want WW history specifically or will any museum do?

He loves Germany as a whole but probably would have a slight more of an interest in anything WW or Nazi related.

Berlin would be fab. Lots of museums, easy to travel on public transport. But I don't think you'll find much Nazi stuff in Germany these days.

Nuremberg is fascinating and cheap to fly to. Alternatively, you can fly to Munich and get the train there. The Nuremberg Rally museums are really interesting. You could combine with Munich where there are some great walking tours about Hitler and National Socialism. Both places are hugely interesting for history buffs.

Berlin. There's a free bus route that takes you past all the old WW2 monuments - Brandenburg Gate etc. You can also get off there in the Tiergarten and walk down to the Soviet War Memorial too, which is jaw dropping, in fact there is loads to see in that vicinity including the Roma Gypsy Memorial and the Holocaust Memorial. Also Bellevue Palace. There's check point Charlie elsewhere in the city. It's a fantastic city. Get the Berlin Welcome Card too. It's a travel pass and entrance to various attractions. Worth every penny.

Probably useful to remember that most things are closed on Sunday in Germany too; all shops etc. When we go, we go mid week during the school holidays.

Nürnberg has the rally grounds and an excellent documentation centre, but Munich also has a lot of interesting WW2 history. This chap is a specialist: dark-history.eu/

Hi
I would actually say Berlin. While some of the WW stuff is pretty harrowing, it is really interesting. There is also a lot of stuff on the cold war and how people lived in east Germany which was interesting. The industrial and science museum is also very good.

Berlin is awesome! So much to see and do. The GDR museum is amazing, obviously later than WWII but the Cold War era is fascinating. I love Berlin, I don't think you could beat it for historical places to visit.
