NY with 2 DS - how many nights?

We’re thinking of going to New York in the October half term with the 2 DS (12 and 10 years old).

They have a 2 week half term, so we’re not so restricted on time.

How many nights do you think we need? We’re thinking 6 nights at the moment - not enough? Too many? What do you think?

I think that could work well. It would give a bit of time for a comprehensive visit to a variety of areas within Manhattan. There is loads to do and see. You won’t need to rush and can take your time. That’s a luxury in a ludicrously busy city!

I don't think I would go to NY for any less than 4 nights mainly due to the fairly long travel distance. There is absolutely loads to do there but you should be able to fit a lot into 6 days. I would advise doing a proper plan before you get there to make the most of the time.

NYC is huge but if you use the subway you can get around quite quickly. If you haven't decided where to stay already I would really recommend the Midtown area as there is so much to see within walking distance.

6 nights is just about perfect in my opinion- I went for 4 and felt we got to see loads but it was all quite rushed and stressful, and we were absolutley shattered with the time difference. Those extra days give you freedom to take things at a slower pace and enjoy it more

We did 4 days NYC then 6 nights Washington DC with our DC (11,13). NY was hectic and Washington was a wonderful antidote. Washington was 3 hours away- we went on the Mega Bus, friends did it by train.

We went to baseball, canoed down the Potomac river and did all the museums and zoo in Washington. They are all Smithsonian, so free. We also went up the Washington monument and took tours of the Pentagon and Capitol.

In NYC we did a cycle tour of Central Park, climbed into the crown of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the High Line, walked the Brooklyn Bridge, Ground Zero, Time Square, bus tour, it was exhausting, full on but wonderful.

We all preferred Washington but really enjoyed NYC too.
