We have 3 , 15,15,8 and struggle when we go on holiday we normally go self catering with a 2 or 3 bed villa .
This does cut out lots of destinations!
None of mine are prepared to share a bed .
What do you do especially those with similar aged kids .

My 3 kids are younger but when we go on holiday we book family rooms which is one room off another room so different to interconnecting rooms.

The main room normally had a large bed and the other 2 singles. The sofas are sofa beds or we get another camp bed brought in.

Turkey hotels are very cheap for family rooms and am looking at Egypt or Morocco next.

We have 4 - 13,10,7,7 - and we always book apartments or houses - minimum 3 bedrooms, but 4 if possible or if we're going for longer than a few days.

DTs will still share a bed, but they mess about if they do, so we prefer to find a place with 2 singles. (Often it's a king bed which can be separated into 2 singles.)

The older two either share a room in separate beds or have a room each.

It takes a fair amount of hunting around online to find a good property, but we've never not found one and had to discount a location because of it.

What kind of places are you looking? I will admit that we don't do beach holidays - usually city breaks - maybe that's the difference.

In the last 5 years we've done Barcelona, Tuscany, Austin, LA, Washington, Orlando, London, Edinburgh and Cornwall and never had a problem getting somewhere.

Similar here, 13, 13 and almost 9. We've used Airbnb, booking.com and owners direct. As pp said, we haven't discounted a destination but perhaps paid more or been slightly out of the centre. We've done a mix of beach, city, skiing.

Looking at anywhere! Like beaches but not your typical resort hotel and lined up sun beds , also like city breaks . Usually like a split holiday .
To be honest though we have been planning this for so long it’s become a chore!
I’ve suggested we have a stay cation and but some new furniture to tart up our house and Dh has gone into a frenzy trying to find somewhere.

Trouble is we are finding Europe not much cheaper than basic trip to USA and the latter is more appealing but we can’t quite afford the extra!

Defiant a first world problem and over thinking this !

Why would SC in a villa cut out a lot of destinations? I would think almost anywhere in Europe would have plenty of properties that meet your criteria. If you're interested in city breaks a 3-bed apartment is generally easy to find too. We often book 3 bedrooms, just to have some space (and because our kids argue if they share!), and I've never had a problem finding a SC place that suits.

We have found in major US cities like NYC , San Francisco and possibly LA and Boston short term let’s are illegal .
Anybhiw we are now thinking of Barcelona which appears to have plenty of self catering appartments .

So many apartments or villas only have double beds or only two singles. Which means we have to look at 4-5 bed places to get enough beds, and even then most sites don't bother telling you about the bed format.

Still better than booking.com etc which think 3 studio apartments for 2 people each is a sensible search result when looking for an apartment for 3 adults, 3 children...
