Recommendations for Majorca

We'd like to go away for a week in early July with 4 year old DS. Where would you recommend in Majorca. We'd like a nice resort (not a high rise hotel) with pools and things for kids to do, with a short walk to shops, restaurants etc if we fancy venturing out. Any gems that you've stayed in? I've heard Puerto Pollensa is good for families but know practically nothing else about the island so may be missing somewhere amazing. Thanks in advance!

We stayed in Cala bona in a Thomson’s family hotel...will try to remember the name but it’s a platinum one now I think. Beach wasn’t that near (we didn’t need one) but lovely waterside area with restaurants etc and the hotel was great and very child friendly. We hired a car and visited lots of local sights like a castle and market. Loved Majorca and would return if it wasn’t so darn expensive in school holidays Confused

If you want a beach, sa coma looked nice when we visited. Friends have been to puerta pollensa and love it.

We stayed in the protur Bonaire. Dc were 18mo and 3yo when we went. It will be bloody hot in July though...

We went to Sa coma last year and I think it's hot everything you're looking for. Very family oriented resort. We stayed in protur safari park, the food was ok not great but there was loads to do.

We stayed at the Bonaire same as Misty^^. Fab hotel, Cala Bona is a lovely resort with a nice harbour area for going out at night. Unfortunately it doesn’t have much of a beach. The Coma Gran in Sa Coma was nice but the pool much smaller than the Bonaire (which has a huge lagoon style pool so anything would be small by comparison!). Sa Coma had a lovely beach though and is a bigger resort so more options at night too. The Coma Gran has the advantage that it’s still TUI Family Life so has the entertainment and kids activities round the pool. Both hotels have toddler pools and splash park. Food great at both.

Paguera is lovely. Three nice beaches, no high rise, lots of restaurants serving international cuisine (nearly all visitors are German so a mix of German and Spanish food) also Cala Fornells nearby which is a tiny resort but great snorkelling.

Pollensa is nice. Cala dor is nice but beaches are too crowded

bringbacksideburns · 09/03/2018 14:10

Pollensa is nice and has all you need. It's just bloody expensive. But judging by the average income of mumsnetters you may find it more affordable than I.

Alcudia is nice. Wide flat beach with shallow sea. Plenty of restaurants and a couple of play areas for kids. The old town is walk-able and pretty, couple of markets on a week. We hired a villa but there were plenty of hotels along the sea front.

Pollensa has been our summer holiday for the past 8 years now. Great for families, v relaxed town and there’s plenty to do nearby.

It’s not cheap though. Accommodation to look at includes, Puerto Azul, Flora, Playa Mar, Villa Concha.

We have stayed in the Bonaire a number of years ago ideal for your DC, it was very clean and the food was remarkably ok a very easy holiday (I wasn’t so keen on Cala Bona). It was a bit Benidormy but the AI was so easy.
Also stayed at Playa Mar in Puerto Pollensa I preferred Puerto Pollensa (the work from hotel to PP along the Pine Walk was lovely) to Cala Bona but the Bonaire AI hotel had a lot better food and was much more of a personal touch than the Playa Mar.
Some friends stayed at one of the Iberostar hotels last year and they raved about that. But think our older DC would struggle with the Iberostar bedroom bed size by the sounds of reviews.
Majorca short flight short transfer times would be ideal for you all.

I have been also looking at Mallorca.
Other nice hotels are the Viva Hotels, and the Insotel chain.

Also heard good things about Robinson Club in Cala Serena although expensive and caters mainly Germans (not against but thinking about my only DC making little friends and she only speaks English)

Any views on the hotels above? in particular, the Kid's clubs for 3-4 year olds.

We stopped at Club Del Sol in Puerto Pollensa.

Not in main town but near.

5* hotel IMO. Day and evening entertainment was good; not pushy but fun; kids activities everyday and every evening at 8.30; there’s a holiday club too every day (dd went once and it was just nice to have one afternoon off!).

There’s 4 pools, inc a good kids one. nice walk into town (and regular buses too).

They do AI but not in the summer (which is good). The bar prices were good (€1.80 for a large wine) and there’s service at your table.

One of my best holidays.

Majorca is beautiful & Puerto Pollensa beaches are really nice too. We’ve been twice to this part of the island.

Other tip, hire a car - roads are so easy and safe. Practically one dual carriage way from airport to north of island. Useful to visit some old towns and it’s good to get a Lidl shop in too (saved us money not eating out for every breakfast and lunch.

We stayed in Port de Soller which was lovely with a beautiful shallow beach. The north side of the island is more difficult to drive around due to the mountains, but the village are stunning.

We did do a day trip to Puerto Pollensa though and we're considering going back there later this year. It was really really lovely, beautiful restaurants which have little seating areas out in the sea. No tide to speak of, so hours of play on the beach.

bramblina · 09/05/2018 00:41

We've also stayed in Soller and found the beach and resort lovely.
Have a Google for Pirates Village in Santa Ponsa- a really cool theme hotel.
Also look for Insotel Cala Mandia- a great hotel.

augustusglupe · 09/05/2018 00:48

We stayed at the Bonaire 2 years running when DD was about 10. That was 20 years ago, it was a great family hotel. Hope it’s still as good.

The aquarium in Palma is amazing.
