Where to go in France walking and/or cycling

I'm determined to be brave in 2018 and go further afield than the UK for holidays. I'll be travelling alone, and have decided France is very doable. But I've never been before and have no idea where exactly to go.

I like walking - fairly strenuous up & down mountains (but not technical) and cycling - quiet roads and gentle off-road as flat as possible (think Norfolk).

Any ideas about which areas would be best?

Merci beaucoup Smile

Loire Valley. Very flat. Lovely family hotels. Great food. We went on a self guided biking holiday so they transferred the bags each night for us with either exodus or ecplore. But lots of independent people too...

Oh and great well sign posted paths

Was also going to say the Loire Valley for cycling too. It was beautiful and there are dedicated cycle paths. The Loire a Velo app and website are really useful. We camped then got the train to various places and cycled to either another train station or back to the campsite.

We love the French Alps. The walking is s strenuous as you want to make it. Ski resorts are perfect as you can hoik up in the cable car and walk along, rather than up ( or worse, down). Accommodation is good value as there's an abundance. We visit family in Thollon-les-Memises which is a stunning little town with amazing walk straight from the chalets and the added bonus of Lake Geneva beaches for afternoon swimming. Enjoy you holiday, wherever you choose.

The Var- great sunny weather, shockingly quiet when compared to the nearby Côte d’Azur and most importantly plenty of nice vineyards to cycle to!

Chamonix in the French alps. Easy transfer from Geneva, no need for a car when you're there (lots of walks from the valley and free train service with tourist card). Stunning scenery and well marked paths. Definitely one for walking rather than cycling though.
