Traveling with a 2year old

So we're planning to go away in may/June time with our boytrious 2year old for 5-7 nights. Any recommendations? Do they sleep in the flight? First time traveling with him, this is why we never travelled before worried how he would be in the flight...!

I went to Spain with my son when he was a month off two, and he was great! He loved take off and landing, looked out the window and slept during the flight. Took some snacks and some little toys (not with lots of pieces!) and some sticker books. We are going again in May when he is a month off 3 and I am not worried at all :)

Depending on the time of flight my DD might sleep (we did an 11 hour overnight flight when she was 2 and half and she slept for about 9 hours!), but if not then snacks, iPad, cbeebies comic should keep them occupied. The inflight food can be hit and miss so grab a sandwich or eat before you fly depending on flight time.

We always pay extra for a decent time flight if we can. We've done the landing at 2am with an overtired toddler-it's not pleasant!

Look for a hotel with a playground or one nearby. We prefer to be somewhere we can walk to things as if DD gets overtired we put her in the pushchair, walk till she's asleep and stop somewhere for a drink. We also look for a hotel/apartment with a seperate bedroom/living area so we aren't all stuck in one room if she's asleep early. Generally though she's good at adapting, her routine goes out of the window and we usually go for dinner around 7.

Don't expect a completely relaxing holiday, it's still parenting a toddler, just in a different environment! But we've taken DD (almost 4) away at least twice a year and the good has always outweighed the bad!

See if they will tolerate headphones. Some episodes of Peppa or some Disney on a tablet will make it fairly painless.

Laurenann can I ask you where in Spain you went? Hotel recommendations? Sounds good, we did have Spain or Portugal in mind

Buy some small cheap and cheerful items such as little crayons and notepad, small toys, pound shop goodies, sweets and wrap them up individually.
When It's suitable time, bring out one of them. Let him unwrap and enjoy. It'll entertain and occupy him quite some time. Once the effects wears off you can bring another little present and start again. This keeps the little ones quiet for long.

I used to do that wih my dd for flights. Flights never bothered us and I'd like to think this was the reason.

What about water? Do you just give them bottled water the whole time? Do you still make bottles?

We went to magic natura in Benidorm, which is where we are going back to. It's an all inclusive resort with a zoo and water park on site which we have unlimited access too. Has evening and day entertainment, kids club and a free bus to the beach/market/town. 100% recommend it is absolutely incredible!
