so, ive done some research but im struggling to find the answers

im going to be travelling to the USA in april with 2 children. for one of them id like to take a car seat to use on the plane. she is 2, has her own seat booked, im aware of the standards that the car seat has to meet for the airline to allow it on, however i cannot seem to find any car seats for her age/group apart from ones that are £250+.

does anyone know of a car seat, certified for air travel which are reasonably priced.

regards

Yes, you'll have to keep the carseat in the airline seat! If she doesn't want to sit in it she'll be on your lap, or sharing the seat with your other child, or in the footwell herself. So yes, very cramped.

The rule is with car seat or without car seat, you can't do half and half. You might be better off with something like a CARES harness if you just want her to be better restrained without needing the car seat.

Is she nearly 2 BTW or just over 2? Sometimes when they are under 2 if you want to book a seat for them they have to be in a car seat.

Just been to look up something I remembered seeing on our facebook page (I'm in Germany but have a lot of US friends here who fly home semi regularly with kids).

This is the product they were discussing, which might work better for you than a car seat: www.fly-tot.com/

However, here's what my friend (who used the Eclipse) had to say about the product:

Since they have to have a seat anyway, I prefer to take a car seat. They are strapped in in their seat, comforable, and can't escape easily (at least mine couldn't). Both of mine wouldn't have left the regular buckle alone, and they are lost in the big seats. We picked out a car seat for my MIL that was approved for flying, and it has done well, even if it's a pain to schlep it around.

(Others agreed. They also discussed whether it is actually approved for flight).

There is a gadget which circulates our group for babies, but it's designed for lap children, not children on their own seat. Just in case your DD is under 2, here's the site for that: sky-baby.co.uk/how-it-works/
