Help!! We are going to the Caribbean next month to show off our new DS to family. I've been looking in the shops for insect repellent and everything seems to say 6 months plus. I asked in Boots today and they said that they don't have anything for less than 6 months and we'll just have to try and keep him covered up!! They were really nice and suggested asking GP but I wondered if anyone here had any ideas. I've already thought that we could use a plug in, spray his clothes with repellent, I could eat lots of garlic and hope it goes through to my milk Anyone got any more ideas?

aromakids do a mosquito repellent suitable from 3 months or 6 Kg.

It's called Mike Mozzie and is just natural essential oils

I'll try to find where I got mine from - we have evil midges in the summer

you can get the gel from Beaming Baby (which is a gorgeous catalogue anyway - lots of lovely tempting things)

Don't forget a midge net for his cot and one for his pram. When the midges were't too bad we put the repellant on the netting rather than on dd (was 3/4 months at the time). I'm positive we got ours from Boots. It was definately suitable for that age and I'm sure it was boots own brand roll on.

I made my own for a baby in Spain a few years back

Massage oil and Citronella oil mixed and put in to a spray bottle.

Its citronella oils which is in baby insect repellant anyhow and I wasn't going to pay the price of that.

never had any problems

Thanks so much. Bobsmum where abouts are you? (and your evil midges!) I was thinking of citronella but hadn't thought of mixing it with massage oil, Slalomsuki. I'm a bit worried about him sucking his hands - would that matter do you think?
I asked at the pharmacist today about something to put on any bites that he does get but they didn't have anything. That spray looks good bobsmum. Wrigglejiggle, we've got a Samsonite pop up cot which has a mossie net on it. I've also just bought a Shade a babe for his pushchair which has a mossie net as well as cutting out the sun. We tried it out today but not sure sun in Newcastle compares to the Caribbean!

Just had a good luck at the websites Bobsmum and Aromakids are doing a summer value deal on the gel, spray and a sort of after bite spray all for £10 +pp. I think I'll be ordering that as I reckon it will be cheaper than making my own. I might be pushing my luck now, but anyone got any ideas about what I can take to reduce effects of bites for me? I'm BF and have always taken anti-histamine as I react quite badly. Thanks
