Dh is looking at taking us to Orlando this summer. I haven’t got the foggiest idea what to do. He’s looking at flights and villas and best time to go in August. What else do I need to know? Car hire? Holiday insurance? I haven’t even been on a plane in twelve years. Kids have never flown at all. Don’t know a thing about holidaying in America. Totally clueless. Anything I should know?

Saying that, I’ve just had a look at ticket packages. Can anyone recommend any? They’re all a bit baffling, I don’t know which parks to go for.

1 day ticket for Disney is approx $100 Per day.

Disney World is massive though. About the size of Manchester.

Of the 6 parks, 2 are water parks so you could easily do both of them in 1 day.

In regards to the others, I would suggest 1 day each and possibly 2 at magic kingdom to fully appreciate them.

We got our tickets from Attraction Tickets Direct. They often have good deals and fab customer service. Importantly, they send you the actual tickets rather than vouchers.

Thanks. Does Disneyworld in general cover all the bits like the waterparks etc?

Depends on what your family are interested in.

Disney has all the obvious character experienced like the princesses. Star wars is a bug thing now at Hollywood Studios.

Universal studios has some of the Marvel characters, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park etc

I would suggest to look at the park websites to see what they offer and decide what best suits your family.

3 websites for tickets I would recommend are Floridatix, Attracrion Tickets Direct & and Orlando Attraction Tickets

Disney has 2 water oaparksrks and Universal has 1.

The 14 day tickets cover these.

That’s a big help, thanks Vodka.

I will probably have some more questions once I’ve had a look at all the websites in depth. Grin

The Brit Guide to Orlando is a fantastic guidebook for the parks

I’d definitely book a villa with its own pool. Families in one room for 2 weeks sounds like hell to me.

Yes, grocery shopping is relatively expensive.

If you look on ticket sites (Martin Lewis’ website will have latest deals) there’s usually a 14 day park hopper for Disney and universal. Yes, it is expensive, but as others say the per day rate is actually good value and you won’t believe the quality of the parks. There are 4 Disney parks and 2 Disney waterparks - they are all usual,y included in your 14 day pass. Depending on the age and interest of your kids Epcot and Magic Kingdom are both usually at least 2 days. I feel you get the chance to get a free memory maker with your tickets, I enjoyed having use of that.

Driving is easy. You can’t be more anxious about it than I was the first time, and it’s fine.
