I posted a few months ago about our upcoming trip to Iceland. Well, we now fly out on Thursday! I’m really looking forward to it.
We get in at lunchtime Thursday and fly out early Sunday morning so 2.5 days. We have booked an apartment in the middle of Reykjavik for the 3 nights and we are planning to hire a car. Just myself and my husband 😃😃. We love scenery, walking, and seeing local life/attractions. Anyone want to plan an intinary with me??

We're going tomorrow! We've booked via the I Heart Reykjavik website for the hot golden circle tour with trip to secret lagoon, boat trip to spot northern lights (not really expecting to see them!), saga of Icelandic beer evening and also omnom chocolate tour. Going to wander and possibly book another tour when there - will see how weather plays out! What are your plans?

We went in November! The golden circle tour is a must - very interesting! The secret lagoon was my favourite place. As they only allow a certain number of people in it is really quiet & magical, and nicer than the blue lagoon IMHO. Be prepared for a costly trip - eating out is v pricey! We did a walking tour of Reykjavik which was run by a group of ex-students. You paid what you thought the tour was worth at the end. I can't remember what they call themselves, but they were #1 on tripadvisor when we went. If you are off hunting the northern lights I would recommend downloading the 'northern lights' app for your phone (you will need to buy a mini tripod as well; I picked one up from amazon for £5). We saw the lights very faintly on our trip, and my pics using my phone were far better than all the photography buffs who had rigged up their SLRs and tripods!

We did some coach trips with this company - great guides, they come and pick you up and drop you back to your accommodation. All ages from children through to 60's on the bus. We were too tentative to hire a car but would do if we go again as we could have stayed longer at places we really liked. You could use their itineraries as a plan.

We did the Golden Circle which was stunning - massive waterfall and hot pools/geyser. The South Shore adventure was awesome - the glacier was amazing - if we hadn't got the DC with us we would have booked to go for a walk up it with the spiked boots - so jealous of those doing it. The snow mobiles also looked amazing ( again Dc too young for it) .The waterfalls were beautiful - rainbows everywhere and you could walk behind one. We also stopped at a cute museum with examples of the hovels and huts people used to live in (think they have changed the itinerary). There are also pony trekking centres (not sure if they are open in the winter)

The city is interesting - worth going up the church tower if you have time at the Hallgrímskirkja church. Some of the local thermal spas are open in the evenings.

We went late summer but I would love to go in the winter - really envy you. There are ice caves on the south coast you can tour in winter IIRC which are meant to be amazing. Loved Iceland (but not the limited range of food and the grotesque American imported apples)

Have fun!
