How much has your holiday cost and where are you going?

Just looking into holidays for this year, we haven't been abroad for about 4 years, we have been to cornwall the last couple of years and love it, generally it's about £1000-£1300ish for a cottage 7 nights in August and then spending money about another £6-700 but can be lower or higher depending on weather/activities etc. So around £2000 all in (we are a family of 5!)

This year I have been looking at centre Parcs (if anyone can recommend the best one down south - all three are about 2 hours from us in Surrey so any recommendations welcome) our children are 4,6 and 8.

We are also considering a week abroad now the children are that bit older, and basically looking at different options, comparing prices etc so just wondering what your holiday plans are and how much they have cost.

I would love to go to somewhere different, we love animals and sea life, somewhere where the kids could snorkel would be fantastic or see animals in their natural habitat. Obviously the kids are still younger and don't just want to lounge by a pool all day but at the same time don't really want to be traipsing round too much in the heat so they are bored and whiny! So a mix of the two would be fab!

Sorry for the lengthy post just looking for some inspiration!

On my list of places to go is Canada, Thailand and Hawaii however at the moment we aren't looking to spend this much or perhaps go so long haul as both boys have recently been diagnosed as diabetic and so we are a little nervous of going too far out to start with logistics etc.

Countduckula you will love it, we've been twice, we rarely return to the same place Smile

Cruise and over £4K with excursions. Didn't think it would cost that much but it has. Most expensive holiday ever.

DH, DS (15) and myself. After years of UK self catering or French Gites (holidays around £1k self catering) we ventured to Greece last year to 'smart' self catering at a all time peak time holiday spend of £4k sc (plus food) Shock. This year we are going to New York and Washington for £3.6K....amazed it's cheaper than 'smart' Greece and DS very excited.

ATailofTwoKitties · 03/03/2018 21:35

Usually it's Wales, for around £350 all in (5 of us).

This year we're looking for somewhere a bit warmer. I think I need to show this thread to DH so he'll stop objecting to the total creeping over the £350 mark.

We normally rent somewhere in France or Italy for a couple of weeks. £1000 is quite standard per week in school hols even for a mobile home sadly. We're going to the Languedoc this year. I do like the look of the all inclusive hotels for the facilities but for me, the fun of a holiday is visiting the local markets for self catering or picking a restaurant so I don't want to be confined to a resort.

Going to Crete in July, two adults and one child. Two weeks in a hotel B&B £3.5k

Algarve. 600 flights. 600 villa 4 bed with pool. 80 car hire. Four of us. I think that's a great deal

Tallace · 10/03/2018 17:33

Cottonsock -that is great deal. is that in school holidays? Ive been looking at flights to the Algarve and they are more than double that at least.

We've just done a week's skiing at half term which cost just under £3k all in. We are having a week in Portugal at the beginning of the summer holidays which is £3400 all inclusive.
We will probably go somewhere for october half term but haven't booked yet.

Next year we are doing Disneyworld again for probably the final time. It will cost £8500 for 10 nights staying on site at disney and 4 nights staying at universal.

I live near you. In terms of CP, Woburn is new enough that the accommodation is in good order, but the swimming pool is better at Longleat IMO. I haven't been to the other one, but it's the newest.

I just wanted to say that Hawaii is incredible and I dream of my honeymoon there everyday. I was on Big Beach in Maui while giving birth to DD2 last year (in my head of course).

When you do it (please make it a when, not if!) you can go via Vancouver and break up the journey with a Canada trip too! We went via San Francisco and can highly recommend that too.

I'd thoroughly recommend visiting a few islands. They are quite different. Oahu has Pearl Harbor and Waikiki, but is a lot more built up than the other islands. Big Island is volcanic, unspoilt and completely chilled out and Maui is paradise on earth (albeit, quite touristy in places).

We'll be going back to squeeze in a trip to Kauai, but maybe when we're no longer paying for DC to come with us!

crazymumofthree · 12/03/2018 00:47

Thanks everyone for the replies!

Moral - I actually dream of getting married in Hawaii but it's a no go due to family not being able to get out there so for us it is a honeymoon dream!

One day we will get there!!

I am hoping once the kids are older we will be able to travel more frequently but I would like to take them to a few 'different' destinations rather than Spain etc. Although Barcelona is on the list! Especially for football mad DS8!

Really interesting reading everyone's holiday plans! Unfortunately me and DH are both tied to term time holidays only due to work as well as the kids so we will have to go at peak times 😔
