First holiday abroad with kids- car seats

Hello, we’re off to costa del sol in Spain for a villa holiday this summer. It’s my first time abroad with my two (4 and 3) what do I do about car seats? Do I buy some cheaper ones that aren’t isofix and attempt to get them on the plane? Or do I have to find a taxi that has them in already from the airport? We have to hire a car for the week so Is it best to hire a car to pick up from the airport that will have them available already? So confused

If you are going to get a car anyway then book at airport with car seats.
If you're going via taxi then prebook and they should provide booster seats at least.

Thanks for your suggestions, so am I likely to be able to prebook this for the airport online before I go?

At that age I'd just take boosters. You should be able to put them in the hold of the plane. Bubble bum for the younger but just a basic cheap one for the older, unless you can get a couple of proper high backed boosters and wrap them really well with cling film. Buying and taking is normally cheaper than hiring which is a pain!

I've travelled with my kids to Spain quite a few times and always hire a car. I take the seats with me as kids are usually allowed to check in one or two large equipment free of charge, depending on the airline. Bit of a pain but beats paying the car hire companies quite a lot of money for pretty rubbish car seats.

Yes you can also take your own. All modern cars have isofix anyway.

We always took our own car, hiring them is a hit and miss, even with a well known agency and they are far too young for booster seats.

Hiring them is stupidly expensive. I found people who hire baby stuff privately in Italy. Or take your own.

A three and four year old are perfectly well old enough for booster seats. Especially the high backed kind.

Bertie: lots of car hires only do the booster cushions, better safe than sorry by taking your own. Our tall 5 year old was very uncomfortable on a cushion.
