Beziers, Narbonne or Perpignan?

We are currently looking at going to one of these areas in early June but I am not sure which one I prefer. I have googled and still not sure. We will be there for about 4 days and think we would prefer to be based near ( walking distance) to one of these areas and then maybe drive around for beaches, sightseeing etc. Veering away from Narbonne since read it could be windy and not sure I want to take the chance ( and is an excuse to narrow down the list) .
No children, adults only so want nice restaurants, pretty town. Also saw collioure recomended on here and that looks nice but not sure.

Any mumsnetters know these areas? Any advice? Thanks

Collioure is beautiful, gets busy in July and August but where doesn't on the med? , Perpignan is ok for a day trip but not much else.

Thanks Amazing, will look more at collioure, and put perpignan at bottom of list.

My ILs have a house near one of those so I know the area well. All of the towns are nice enough but don't have a huge amount to see or do. It's a nice area for relaxing, eating and drinking well and wandering around though.

Perpignan is a bit of a craphole (sorry anyone who lives there!). Narbonne is small but very very pretty. Haven't been to Beziers and don't know any of the beaches on that part of the coast.

Inland a little bit are all the Cather castles. If you don't mind a hill hike then Peyreperteuse is about a 45 minute very easy drive inland from Perp. Queribus is a little more ruined but a very easy 10 min walk up from the carpark- fantastic views.

You can hire boats to go along canals around Beziers. As long as you have a driving licence, you can hire a boat. We'd love to do it for a week and are saving up for next year.

Thanks Eurochick. There is not much to differeniate the three it appears so will keep an open mind.

Beziers is rough. Fucking horrible. We stopped there on a road trip one night, many sad looking prostitutes along the side of the motorway to pick up truckers. Went to get a takeaway and the owner/worker went out to do a drug deal from a taxi whilst serving us. Id avoid. Left as soon as we could. Was really surprised they are still active in bullfighting too

Perpignan, OK, but I wouldnt spend a holiday there. Maybe a day.

Narbonne is a nice beach,
There are better places in the area, as someone mentioned Couilloure, also carcassone, and theres some beautiful towns at the foothills of the pyrennees.

Agree with the above. Collioure lovely. Perpignan ‘la zone’. We stayed st Le Relais des Trois Mas a few years back. It was lovely.

Humphriescushion · 01/02/2018 08:06

THanks El, will leave perpignan at bottom of the list then.

BRanleuse, thanks will bear that mind. We will have a car so will be able to travel to beaches, castles etc but are probalby going to stick to one of these areas for various reason. Will do some more research on Beziers.
