Has anyone been to a nice hotel near a rainforest? Totally open on location/country just looking for something special after a hard few years.

Thanks.

The Rasa Ria or Tanjung Aru on Borneo. Be warned in summer it will rain. A lot. Another option is Mulu. Can’t remeber the hotel name but there is only one.

I think the OP has to think if it’s a wildlife visit to the Rainforest or just a look at typical vegetation where wildlife is not the main feature of the stay. Clearly St Lucia can not compare with the Amazon Basin and you will learn next to nothing about eco systems and life in the Rainforest in Sf Lucia.

The Canadian Rainforest is totally different and does not have the same animals and birds as the Amazonian Rainforest. However nice hotels near rainforests are easy enough to find but the real experience of a lodge deep in the Amazon is a totally different. None, however, are cheap! All are long haul.

I think you need to ask yourself - what type of rainforest experience do I want and what do I want to see when I am there? If it’s more about the Hotel, choose anywhere you can afford, but if you feel you want more of a David Attenborough experience, then find a lodge deep in the Amazon and go for it. You will never forget it!

Never been to rainforest, but how about the Brazilian Pantanal? This is supposed to be one of the best lodges in The Pantanal www.fazendabarrancoalto.com

Daintree / Cape Tribulation is pretty amazing. Also on a beach and you can do an excursion to snorkel the great barrier reef...

If anyone did go to Daintree, we would really recommend Daintree Safaris - spent our best day in Aus with them!

The Pantanal is a tropical wetland. Great place for Jaguars! Combine it with the Amazon and you have an amazing wildlife holiday!

Seconding Rasa Ria in north Borneo - this is a 'safe' option for a rainforest stay, as it is a western-style modern beach resort with its own small rainforest adjoining.

If you are looking to go proper National Geo, then the Mulu National Park has chalets (or dorm rooms) etc and you can go on jungle treks or boating down the river, cooling down in a waterfall, exploring the world famous caves, visiting an Iban (native tribe) longhouse...

I'd also recommend taking a mini trip to the Danum Valley, the canopy walk is spectacular.

I grew up in Borneo but would love to go to a South American rainforest, or one in the Congo to see gorillas... Agreeing with pp in you'll have to consider what kind of wildlife you'd love to see, as well as climate. Some rainforests are quite cool, and some primary rainforest is harder to get to.

If you are more after animals we went to Costa Rica this year and lots of raccoons, monkeys, sloths, geckos, coati, toucan etc and rainforest, its their winter but was far better than our summer. We stayed in Guanacaste and we were in a hotel by rainforest but I wouldn't describe it as a rainforest hotel but some hotels in area, they are keen on protecting environment there so its more by the rainforest.

We stayed in some lovely lodges in the rainforest by the Kinabatangan river in Sabah, Borneo and were joined at breakfast by monkeys and bearded pigs!
