Looking for holiday anywhere in France. We can fly or go by ferry/car. For 2 adults and 13 year old. Not camping.

It's a big country. What do you like doing? What climate?

Milliways · 26/01/2018 19:27

Pierre eat Vacances do nice holiday villages in Spain.

Milliways · 26/01/2018 19:28

France I meant, ( although they do all over)

As a kid we used to go to the south of France by car and putting it on the overnight train, I think from Paris? Ferry to calias. It was lovely. We’d be there for a couple of weeks in villas. We would have a sleeper cabin just our family.

Zillions of gîtes/ houses on homeaway etc.

But with ONE thirteen year old (I have one but with a sibling) I would rent a mobile home somewhere where they can meet others and some activities.

Do you want seaside, lake, walking, culture...?

jenpetronus · 26/01/2018 20:01

I live here (coastal
Brittany) and happy to help if I can, but I think we need to know a bit more about what exactly you want and like too Smile

Beautiful. Great Value. Easy travel as no airport. Wonderful food. Great people. Lovely location and great local activities and history. Weather sometimes indifferent.

Totally different budgets but I recommend Club Med la Palmyre Atlantique north of Bordeaux and Domaine du Cournet Haut in the Dordogne, both easily done by car. Also Sawday’s ‘special places to stay’ for breaking the journey.

We go to gites, usually through Brittany Ferries when they have a sale as we like to go to the West coast and get quite good value with the Ferry this way, travelling overnight to St Malo. Southern Brittany is great for younger kids, not sure about a teenager. Gites are often rural which we like but wouldn't be great if you want lots of other people to socialise with.

I think the Alps would be good for a teen. I went when I was mid-teens and there were lots of activities (when I wasn't too moody to join in) and walking, cable cars etc. We stayed in a ski chalet in the summer. I also liked the Dordogne as a teenager: canoeing, castles etc. We stayed in a gite with a pool, which helped.

i'll tell you about my holiday in france. We went in august to a small town near bordeaux.
We rented a house with a pool.

France was shut basically. The heat was was stifling but we weren't near the coast so nice breezes or anything. The pool went mouldy and dark green and the managers just kept adding more chemicals to resolve the problem.

never again. spain or greece or italy or anywhere else now.

But i love paris.

I have a 12yr old, 10 yr old and 8yr old, for the last couple of years we've been to siblu holiday parks ( mobile homes not camping) loads for the kids to do. We take bikes and they have a huge amount of freedom to roam and make friends around the site. Has worked really well for us, been to the Vendee now going further south this year.

PhuntSox · 26/01/2018 20:38

We got the ferry to Brittany and had a lovely week in a caravan. Couldn't fault it and very easy. The Brittany Ferries web site might give you some ideas.

Branleuse · 27/01/2018 14:44

you probably need to be more specific with what youre after. France is a big place

LeMesmer · 27/01/2018 22:37

Depends what you enjoy doing as a family. My favouries, as a family with two adults and 12 year old DS, would be Chamonix, Loire Valley, coast somewhere near Nice, Brittany, Ile de Re (although Ile de Re might be a bit small for more than a week). We have had many, many holidays in France Smile
