Has anyone been to a nice beach resort in Italy?

Who's going?

Bejazzled · 22/01/2018 20:15

Caorle! Fabulous family friendly resort with tons of cafes and restaurants. They close the road through the town at night to allow for the passeggiata and there were live bands and even open air cinema screenings (in Italian of course). Being Italy most of the huge beach is sectioned into private areas belonging to hotels, but the hotel price will include beds and a parasol. There was organised children's activities on the beach and water sports too.

When you say resort are you looking for a hotel or town? Amalfi is really nice - in fact anywhere (bar Sorrento - didn't like it!) along the Amalfi coast is going to be beautiful. Flights (into Naples) are pretty cheap although hotel costs are a bit high! Sanremo is not bad (fly into Naples and it's about 1hr 20 from there by train) - very old grand faded glamour! As Bejazzled says though, a lot of private beaches in Italy. Further south, Taormina in Sicily is exceptionally pretty (fly into Catania and then it's about a 30 minute train journey). Hope this helps!

PS - avoid Lido de Jesolo like the plague!

And it should read fly into Nice for Sanremo - sorry!

Viareggio. Convenient for flights to Pisa and a good centre for inexpensive rail trips around Tuscany.

What’s the budget? The best Italian beaches are in Puglia and Sardinia.

Allaboutthatcake · 24/01/2018 19:33

I really liked sant agnello, it’s not beachy as such but you can go to private beaches along the coast. It’s more accessible than amalfi, less busy than sorrento and you can fly to Naples.

QuitMoaning · 24/01/2018 19:39

There are lots of beautiful beaches down south from Naples. Amalfi and it’s surroundings are famous but there are many areas near by that are very beautiful and a fraction of the price and much less touristy.

What else do you want? Do you have children?

My father owns a house down the coast (no Italian heritage just love the area) and I know lots of coastal towns. What sort of feel do you want?

@quitmoaning - sorry to highjack but i would love you views on non-toursity parts of Italy and coast to holiday in. We are four, two adults and a 6 and 8 year old.

I would like to be able to walk from accommodation to a trattoria or two, shops etc. Like bustling and alive, not so keen on massive crowds. Love the pics of Sorrento/Amalfi but deterred by crowds as we are restricted to school holidays.

Self catering - small villa or apartment.

Access to water - either a pool (shared or not) OR (if an a lovely old town for example), access to sea swimming via a beach or a bathing platform.

Food v important - markets, good produce etc.

Relax and laid back.

Thanks so much!
