Rome with kids

Any tips ? Kids are 15 ,15 and 8.
We would like to do a week in Rome, stay somewhere where we can walk to most things although if I remember the Vatican is slightly away from other sights.
Are self catering apartments a good choice or any hotels that do interconnecting rooms?

We went in October and DS 11 enjoyed it a lot.
There’s loads of apartments to rent - I got ours through booking.com and a company called Easyinrome. I’d been before and location near piazza navrona is good as walk-in distance for most things. It was lovely to have nice tranquil apartment to retreat to and make our own breakfast .

Bumping up.

Where would you suggest to stay in Rome. One almost teenager and two adults. Central walking distance is a good idea but not so central that we can't sleep for all the noise. Don't mind a short taxi ride.

If you want to be within walking distance of most sights I’d suggest somewhere in the “triangle” between Campo dei Fiori, Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. From there it’s walkable to all of the very centre, and a longish walk or short taxi ride to places slightly further like the Vatican, Trastavere, Villa Borghese and the Colosseum.

Noise depends more on whether you are on a main road or above bars/restaurants than which neighbourhood, I think. We were very central but on a small side street with no noise. If you use Airbnb or Booking.com the reviews will usually mention noise levels.

My two absolutely loved Rome. My DS had just done the Romans at school so he acted as our little guide. We rented a small apartment through a company called "Friendly Rentals" and have used them another cities too. We were within walking distance of Vatican...Rome is a great city for walking.

A week is probably a bit long in Rome IMO. Maybe a day down at Pompeii? It’s fascinating. And then you’re very close to Sorrento as well. I find the rest of the Amalfi coast pretty terrifying, overpriced and with little to do.

We stayed just outside the Vatican Walls. It was perfect. Walking distance of everywhere we went except the Colosseum and Knights of Malta keyhole. Less than 5 minutes walk to a tube station and , in the other direction, about the same into St Peter's Square. That area then runs into Trastevere and you can walk into the centre easily.
Our hotel (Best Western) was literally 200m from the entrance to the Vatican Museums.
Lots of security as you can imagine, and very quiet at night.

Aw thank you that's been really helpful. I've stayed in air b n b before but it looks quite complicated when you don't know the area so thanks.

Any tips on what the teenager might like or is it the usuals? Any think you'd def do, or anything that's a bit overages and can skip.
