Corsica, start of July?

Would like to go on holiday to Corsica in the first week of July (post-exams, hurray!) and looking for an area with good access to beach, shops and mountains. We are total warm-holiday rookies as the kids have spent their youth on damp UK campsites - anyone have any recommendations for good places to start?

The kids (sob) all count as adults for holidays these days.

We really like the Calvi/ Ile Rousse area. Also stayed in lovely villas in Lama on a MN recommendation. Where will you fly to? OMG lucky you! Envy

We really liked the beaches south of Porto Vecchio. Note that when booking for villas, most of them are rented Saturday to Saturday (no matter what the booking website says)

Thank you both! (That's a good point about the rental dates. We could have a clash of flight dates versus booking dates if we're not careful.)

We honeymooned in Corsica, it's gorgeous. Calvi was my favourite place, lovely old town, harbour front with bars and restaurants, citadel, and beach (walkable from the town but I think there's also a train that goes along the coast?)

We then got the narrow gauge railway to Corte, which goes through dramatic countryside, less pretty than Calvi but nice and hilly!

We finished in Bastia which was my least favourite due to lack of beach.

Don't know about the south.

It will be very hot in July!

Actually I do recall nearly all flights UK to Corsica on a Sunday, you may end up with a night in a hotel. Or a tortuous non direct flight via Paris.

Bonifacio and the beaches in the south are lovely too. It's worth doing the boat trip to see the sea caves. It is just such a fabulous place. It's like a bit of Scotland dropped in the Med. It's brilliant for walking if you don't just want to lie on a beach. Ajaccio is a nice city to spend a day or so too.

Just managed to book Saturday flights, so thanks for the tip there.

Now to find somewhere to stay - plenty of choice, and we aren't very good at decisions!
(Part of me is waiting for one of the offspring to realise that actually, it clashes with a maths exam/ball/drama performance/haircut, but sod 'em, I'll take the rest and leave one behind if I have to.)

Just checked that our favourite beach was Pinarello, that's a lttle north of Porto Vecchio, if you decide to go that way

Lancelottie · 19/01/2018 10:40

Pinarello looks gorgeous!

Right, next task: getting at least two of the family to work out where the hell they put their passports (like I say, we don't do much Forrin Stuff). Luckily I managed to book the flights without needing the passport numbers.

The Hairy Bikers did their programme in Corsica last night the scenery looked spectacular.

Lancelottie · 23/01/2018 18:10

Thank you - watched it on catch-up last night, and it looks great!
