Getting to the South of France for Eurocamp

I'm looking at summer holidays, I like the look of some sites in South East France, both on the Med and the Atlantic. I've not been to a Eurocamp site since I was about 14 (so about 7 30 years ago). What is the best way to get there? It will be me, DD (age 9) and possibly my best friend. It will only be me driving, I don't really fancy driving all that way, but can if I have to. I always seem to over pack, so I'm not sure if it's manageable by train or plane. For those Eurocamp veterans, which transport would you recommend:

  • fly to nearby local airport on Ryanair/ Easyjet, then hire a car
  • train to Avingnon then hire a car
  • just suck it up and drive all the way there

Any other ideas? Any particular site recommendations would also be welcome, I'm getting site blindness after too much research. My ideal Wishlist is good swimming pool, walking distance to a beach, walking distance to a town/ village, with places to eat etc/ some sight seeing. I had thought about Dordogne or similar, but DD wants a proper sea beach rather than a lake or river.

DD wants to stay in a tent, we're compromising on one of the safari style tents, are they worth it? Is it likely to be too hot in the south of France to stay in a tent? Anything else I need to think about?

For flights look midweek and look at other airports (sky scanner is good). It is a fraction of the cost to fly to Toulouse rather than perpignon for example and only a couple of hours drive to the coast.

we also stayed at camping la sirene in Argeles, flew birmingham to perpignan with ryanair - flights about 1.5hrs & campsite arranged taxi (30mins) - so really easy to get to. We didn't hire a car either - there is a trainbus that stops right outside & takes you to the beach/restaurants, also stops at the theme park, supermarket, marina, old town, cinema/bowling complex. We went may half term & maybe the theme park was shut or only open at night, but we never found it to be noisy. The site has a fantastic pool complex with indoor heated kids & adults pools plus large outdoor pool with lots of slides. There is also archery, crazy golf, playground, foam parties & evening entertainment every night. We're going somewhere else this year (just for a change) & kids are really disappointed so suspect we'll be booking again for next year!

Love doing this journey on the train ..Dd2 hates flying so this will do, and I like trains..sometimes down to Perpignan and sometimes Avignon, then hire a car, usually with one stop off..love it, though I always find the stop off hard on the way back so sometimes we do it in a day...

We've flown to Perpignon and Carcasonne.
Have a lool the 'where we fly' on the Ryanair website.... there are loads of random little places which you can then hire a car from and will cut out a significant portion of driving.
But... I've never been on a really cheap or empty flight with Ryanair to France, a lot of people have retired to France and it seems to push the prices up, no matter when you fly.
