Ferry v Eurotunnel

We've driven to Europe a few times and tend to go at peak periods (Easter weekend or coming back on the last weekend of the school holidays). Previously we've gone by Eurotunnel because it's so quick but I pretty much every time we've experienced delays of a few hours.

As we're probably driving over at peak times again this year, I'm wondering whether we might be better getting the ferry. Has anyone travelled by ferry at peak periods? Do they also tend to suffer from delays in peak periods??

We tend to use the tunnel at less popular times in peak periods. For example second Saturday in August last year, but at 8.30pm virtually empty terminal and shuttles about a quarter full.

Yes. Both get busy .

I think though that ferries have fewer hold ups as they don't depart as often as the tunnel.

We don't travel in peak summer anymore as DC grown up so it's much easier and cheaper.

I say choose whichever method of travel you prefer and is easiest for you from home location and destination, and your pocket.

If you can travel on days other than weekends it should be less frantic. We often would travel on a Weds or Thurs and add a couple of nights on to the trip stopping off in a different town. Adds to the cost, but is better than a frantic Saturday morning ferry port queue.
