We want to take ds2 scuba diving somewhere after his GCSE exams at the end of June beginning of July. Prefer a hot climate with marine fish Any suggestions welcomed

Not longhaul, but Egypt is a good place, in particular Hurghada or Marsa Alam.

Pricey, but the best diving you can experience - Helengeli Island in the Maldives. Just been and wow, wow, wow! Sharks, rays, turtles, all fish you could think of - you name it, it is there.

Asia is mainly out due to rainy season in most countries, however a dry area is Borneo. There is an island called Mantanani Island which you can get to from Kota Kinabalu easily and diving there is divine.

Not sure on the Caribbean. Been to Barbados almost 10 years ago and back then diving was amazing with many wrecks to add to the mix. Not sure if things have changed though. Wet season starts July, so would need to go before.

we stayed on florida keys and went to John Pennekamp for snorkelling which was brilliant. we also did an eco canoe trip through the everglades a stunning all day experience our teens absolutely loved - going very slowly past the alligators with nothing but a paddle!

also take a look at Belize the islands off of the mainline have a big reef and the snorkelling and diving here is amazing

Indonesia would be dry then too.

Egypt can be amazing but depends where, a lot of dead coral in places. Not much to do outside hotel and safety aspect is also putting some people off.
Caribbean - we've dived Mexico, Jamaica and Grenada, all different, all fun, all in July so hot, sunny, occasional shower of rain. Given your sons age. Mexico a good bet as lots of other things to do. Zip lines, jungle trips, cenote diving, great parks like Xcaret and Xel Ha. I presume your son is already Padi qualified? Jamaica also has lots of non diving activities and locals very friendly. Grenada much less touristy. Lots of wreck diving though, particularly if he's padi advanced or interested in doing so.

I'm a keen snorkeller rather than diver but we often go away that time of year for family holidays:

Marsa Alam and Maldives have the best underwater life we have seen in our travels but it will be super hot in Egypt and rainy season in Maldives. Haven't been to Raja Ampat but is on my 'to do list'

Barbados and Mexico were fairly good for snorkelliing and we have had fabulous weather in both places early July. Preferred Barbados to Mexico.

Snorkelling off islands in Kota Kinabalu was not as good as in the above destinations and there is lots of plastic in the sea. I hear the islands off Sandakan are better but were off limits as of last year according to FCO guidance. Would recommend Borneo as a general wildlife destination though.
