Disney florida

Considering Disney Florida for dh and kids aged 7 and 9. When is the best time to go? We are all quite fair so wouldn't want it to be too hot and dh and I don't do rides, would you think it's with it? Hate the idea of missing out on the magic of Disney but not sure if it really is us! Have you been as non theme park lovers and would you recommend it?

October would be good timing. I’d wait and book for October 2019 in April when free dining comes out. Plenty to see without doing big rides. I don’t do big rides.

No probs. If you are on Facebook look up some of the Disney and Orlando pages. Loads of help on there.

shakemysilliesout · 06/01/2018 20:30

What strikes me about your post is, does anyone want to go? It's just it's a big holiday if you aren't mega excited. Is there anything else you might prefer to do? Is Disney just fear of missing out? People take disney planning very seriously! When I was 9 my parents took us round the states but not Florida, amazing trip, Niagara falls, Boston etc. Not putting you off as I am sure Florida is amazing, just be sure you want to go😀

We went to Disney California when DS was 8. Mainly because it had/has CarsLand and DS was a massive fan.

I'm soooo not a rides person but by the end I was whooping with the rest of them Smile

We're also thinking of doing Florida (as California is great but all doable in 3 days) and have heard that October would be a good time weather wise.

I've had a look at a few Disney boards and tbh, find them really daunting. I'm sure if I put the effort in I could find all the tips I want but there's literally thousands upon thousands of pages.

We used Virgin as a package holiday for California as I was a bit nervous booking independently, but I'd feel more confident now I think.

LoniceraJaponica · 06/01/2018 20:47

When you say you don't do rides is this any ride or just white knuckle rides?

DD and I don't "do" white knuckle rides, but found plenty of rides that we enjoyed when we went last year. If you don't enjoy any rides at all the tickets would be an expensive waste of money.

saffinmum · 06/01/2018 20:55

Our kids loved Disney at that age. October or April would be best. US kids are not off in October so the parks are quieter. July/ August just too hot and busy and lots of time lost in the afternoon when it rains. December way too busy for it to be pleasant.
It's still great fun even if you don't do the rides, lots of theming, parades and things to see and do.
www.thedibb.co.uk is a great source of information for Disney and other things to do when planning a Florida vacation. We used it a lot to figure out quiet times etc.

Bloody hell, look at this! Is this a bargain or is this a bargain??

CappuccinoCake · 06/01/2018 21:46

Just thinking it was pretty amazing and remembered I had another child!!

Linnet · 06/01/2018 21:48

We’ve always gone in October, it’s not as busy and not as hot. I would also recommend checking out the dibb boards.

Hi Guys
We are also looking to do Disney 2019. We don't mind taking the kids out of school for one week (our school doesn't fine us but if they did it's still cheaper than Easter and cooler/quieter). I have found a package through virgin on 22.02.19, from Gatwick for 2 adult 2 children, 14 nights staying at Coronado springs, includes the Disney tickets and QS dining plan, and I added universal tickets at the end. £6590. This is with shuttle transfers to and from airport (we don't want to drive as it's our first time), and Virgin Disney springs check in service for the last day so we can enjoy the final day at the parks as will be checked in for flight and luggage already taken (as I understand - please correct me though if I'm wrong on this).
This seems like a really good deal to me? What do you think?
I looked at Thomas Cook and TUI who are also offering the dining plan for free but they don't have any dates in February...??? Also booking direct with Disney site was coming in at around £6200 but that was without universal tickets, and I figured it would cost more if I got those separately?
Any advice on who is best to book with would be fab as we have never even been to America, so this is all very new to us. thanks :)

underneaththeash · 26/04/2018 22:25

Personally I find the weather too cool in Feb, especially if you want to do water parks. October/march better, although google dates for the American holidays.
Price looks quite good though.

NapQueen · 26/04/2018 22:28

Why not just do Disneyland Paris? If its just for the "Disney Magic" nd save youself 5k.

Ilikesweetpeas · 26/04/2018 22:33

I personally am not a big rides person but I love Florida! The theme parks are about so much more than rides. Your children sound ideal ages, we went when mine were 6 and 8, and are going again next year. On FB "It's Orlando Time is a good source of information.

GS1990 · 27/04/2018 10:25

Hi all
Thanks for the replies. I definitely want to do Florida as we are all huge Harry Potter fans. I was thinking of doing Paris while they're young as it's cheaper and then Florida when they're teens. But hubby doesn't fancy spending 3-4k on Paris for only 4 nights. We'd rather put that towards Florida. I also did Paris as a kid and remember the awful shoving and bad attitude of the public on the shuttle busses. They were literally trampling over women with children and shoving so they got on first. Think my parents spent 3k on food there on a weekend and that was 14 years ago!
I have looked at Oct 2019 which is about 800 more on a virgin Disney package or in a nice hotel on International drive with breakfast and tickets it's about 5,800... But that's no meal plan. Although it's much further away so have longer to save and if weather better it's worth considering. Thanks you all..

marjorie25 · 12/05/2018 20:07

I agree with shakemysilliesout about visiting other parts of the US that are more enjoyable than Disney.
Albany, Niagara Falls, Rhode Island, Pittsburgh, New England are beautiful places and not as hot as Florida.
Bear in mind that every afternoon at 3:00 p.m., the skies over Florida darken and the heavens opens up. Never seen rain as heavy as this.
30 minutes to 1 hour, its back to that terrible heat.

Lulusmother · 13/05/2018 10:03

Ok... so I'm a huge Disney fan. Summer there is very, very hot, humid, rains in the afternoon for an hour then clears up. We've been April, May, June and July. Last time we went was June and was very hot, humid, rainy. If you can get your kids out of school I'd do April/May. Ps... it doesn't have to be expensive; if you book a hotel with transport that's what your paying for.
We go to Davenport to a place with apartments, hire a car etc. Next year it's coming up as for 4 adults £500 odd .
