Driving in France

After a bout of back to work blues, I sporadically booked a Eurocamp holiday in South of France for early June. Now DH has said the 9hour (conservative) drive from Calais is too long, even with a one night stop over.
So I'm looking for recommendations for alternative locations we could change to? Happy to do up to 6-7 hours drive in total as we've allowed for a one night stay on either side. Ideally somewhere with decent activities for a 3yo and 9yo and decent weather!
TIA

Le Bois Masson, Pierres Couchees and Le Bois Dormant are three parks that are very close to each other on the south Brittany coast near Nantes. The drive from Calais is no more than 6 hours, but you could consider the getting ferry to St Malo which would make the drive much shorter.

I'd keep your original booking - don't let the drive put you off. We drove from Caen to the very south near Spain) last year with three kids under 6, including a baby. We had a one night stopover. I was worried about the journey but it was fine - we actually all enjoyed it! Amazing to see the scenery change as you travel through France. Plenty of toys, snacks and stopping to stretch legs every 2hrs or so. Longer stops for meals. It worked really well, roads in France are fabulous to drive on and service stations brilliant (make sure you always stop in the bigger ones) - picnic areas and kids play parks! Would also recommend the Sanef toll tag gadget which makes Peages so easy, no scrabbling for change. Just avoid going through Paris (won't make that mistake again!!)

It's really not a long drive. We've done St Tropez to Central London in one day. Easy done. Stop at several Aires for a leg stretch and off you go again. Stopping half way will be a doddle.

What was your original site ? id be tempted to stick with that one as youve chosen it because it appeals to you, if youre having a overnight stop 9 hours isnt that bad, depending on what time you set off you can have most of afternoon to relax at your overnight stop location or if you both drive the 9 hours may be better to do in one go, if DC sleep in car and travel well.
i think going south is the best option to get decent weather in June

We have done that sort of distance many times , with or without a stopover and with children of all ages from 3 months up.
The roads are straight and generally very clear and well maintained, there are plenty of pleasant 'aires' for loo/ stretch/picnic and more conventional service stations with restaurants etc .
Stopping the night does add to cost but I look at it as part of the holiday.

In France that would be a pretty easy drive.

Or you could change your ferry and go further down.
