I cant find anywhere in spain I want to go on holiday and was thinking of greece but DH said it will be a nightmare trying to keep them occupied on the plane.

Should we go for it or find somewhere closer ie spain(if so where)

depends on the child, but i think a 10 mth old doesn't need that much to enterrain them surely and a 3 year old can take all the usual snacks, sticker books, tiny toys and so on. just shoe your dh the threads about 24 hr flights with kids and he'll get things in perspective.

I don't think that Greece is too far at all. 10 month old will probably be as happy on the plane as anywhere else, particularly if they're not walking yet, and you can take stickers, colouring books etc to amuse a 3 year old. There are lots of old threads on amusing toddlers on flights. Try to make sure that you have good flight times and the transfer at the other end isn't too long and you will be fine.

PrincessPeaHead · 24/04/2007 22:37

of course, it will be absolutely fine

moondog · 24/04/2007 22:44

No worries.
I've done it on my own fairly oft4en too.

swedishmum · 24/04/2007 22:46

You'll be fine. I travelled a lot when my oldest 3 were all under 3, often without dh. I think it's only as difficult as you make it.

Depends on your dc. Mine would NEVER have stuck it for 4 hours but she wouldn't sit in a seat for longer than half an hour. It was a total pain in the neck. She'd wriggle down, crawl along the aisle (aged 3). I had books, paper, games, even a cassette player with story tapes.

We just had a 5 hour flight when we were away over Easter and she is now 6. I'd say it was borderline for her. Which makes me a bit worried about how we're going to cope with flying to New Zealand end of the year.

The 10 month old will definitely be easier than the 3 year old.

Am doing this on Tuesday! Going to Crete with a 4 yr old and 14 month old. I'll try and remember to let you know how it goes when we get back!

We're going on an 8am flight, so will be up at 4am; the strategy is to keep them both awake until we get on the plane. Wear them out in the airport so they sleep for as long as poss on the flight. Ds1 will be fine with stickers, colouring etc. Ds2 will be a nightmare as he is not one for sitting on laps for long spells!! The way I see it is that it's only 4 hours each way and it's worth it for a 2 week holiday !

Have done it with a 3 year old and an 8 month old, then a 4 year old and 18 month old, it was absolutely fine both times. Took lots of stickers and pens for dd1, snacks and books for dd2 - they were fine

And don't forget, Greece is only 3 and half hours away, tops. So not quite as bad as you think. By the time you've had all the excitement of take-off, the drinks, the duty-frees, the meal, several trips to the loo, etc etc the flight will have gone before you realise it. It's not that long, really. Do it!

kbaby · 28/04/2007 22:32

Well I hope so as ive just booked it.

Im also borrowing a friends portable DVD player to hopefully keep DD amused for 1 hrs or so.

We've done it and it was fine. Four hours goes by quickly on a plane, especially if there's a meal. Ours are 2 and 4 and we've flown with them about 5 times, longest flight 5 hours.
