Recommendations for lovely accommodation in Lapland

Looking to visit Lapland for a few nights this December just dh and I. Have been looking at travel agents but nothing is quite right for us. Does anyone have any recommendations for lovely log cabins? We would love to do the usual husky, Reindeer snow shoe stuff but then tuck ourselves up in front of a fire in our own cabin and enjoy the evening. I'd like a bit more lux than a rustic feel just not finding anything that suits.

Unfortunately it'll be hard to find in Lapland as it's mainly on the rustic side rather than luxury. A large chunk of visitors in Lapland are other Finns and they just aren't willing to pay for luxury services. Having said that I think Finnish cabin owners should really take note and start upgrading the interiors as other nations aren't quite as tight as the Finns are (and I say this as a Finn).

Does it have to be a cabin? The Arctic Light Hotel in Rovaniemi is suppose to be good and they also have one cabin they rent. I haven't stayed there hence I say supposed to be. You could either hire their cabin or the loft room and it's easy to visit many places from the town. I.e. the Santa Claus village is local and has husky park with rides as well as reindeers rides and many other things.

Thanks for the info Heli, we'd rather stay away from hotels given the time of year there will be no doubt lots of families enjoying the hunt for Santa which we aren't looking for.

We're looking at Inari/Sarriselka area as we'd like to see the NL though we know it's never guaranteed it would be a huge bonus.

Following this thread as also looking at a childfree trip to Lapland this Dec. Really unsure which area to go to. We want to be able to do the touristy husky rides etc and walk into a town for food and drinks but still have the nice scenery.

I’d quite like to visit the Santa clause village and things of the like but not sure if a package Tui trio complete with elves meeting you off the plane is just too far without kids!!!

Tinnie have you looked at the TA forums, lots of info there. Levi is meant to be lovely for all the things you mentioned. We want to head north to enjoy the peace and give us a better chance of seeing the Northern Lights, we are booking everything independently as it seems cheaper.

Going to spend this morning searching TA forums thank you. Also considering going north for a better chance to see the lights. Not our sole aim but would be a lovely added bonus

Does it have to be in December?

Seriously, unless you want the Santa experience and to fight your way through hordes of small children I would avoid December. Also why would you want to go when there is no daylight?

We went in February 3 years ago. We enjoyed 8 hours of sunny daylight, and had a fabulous time taking part in various snowy activities - reindeer sledging, husky driving, cross country skiing and snowmobiling - all of which were more enjoyable because they were during daylight hours. We snowmobiled down a frozen river in the dark and it was not an enjoyable experience. We couldn't see anything and were just too cold to enjoy it.

We were also fortunate enough to see the Northern Lights. The accommodation was not at all luxurious. It was clean, very warm and comfortable, but not a luxury holiday.
