Wasn’t sure where to post this but DH and I have both got a month off in August, potentially more or less if needed but ideally a month to coincide with the school hols for DD (age 6)

Rocky Mountaineer is the train. We did an overnight stay then ended in Vancouver. It’s wondefful but I’m not sure your youngest would be that happy.
I suggest San Francisco and drive to Yosemite, stopping at a few places on the way (Lake Tahoe is good). Weather was lovely.
South Africa weather also good that time of year.

Canada: Vancouver Island, Calgary, Whistler, Jasper, Banff. The Rockies are beautiful- Lake Louise and the Miette Hot springs are still places I vividly remember even though the last time I visited them was 15 years ago.

Another one saying west coast Canada, you could easily spend a month there. Maybe hire a campervan for some of it. Mind you a lot of good places will already be busy so you'd need to get your skates on for the best accommodation and or campsite places.

Flights to Singapore seem quite a good price at the moment and you can then overland it to the East side of Malasia and lots of lovely islands etc.

We spent last August in Sanur, Bali and I think it totally fits what you're looking for. You won't need to spend £10k. The weather was absolutely perfect - it's around 25/26 degrees most days with blue skies. Sanur is on the beach so you are never far from the sea. We rented a villa there for a month and paid £1200. I guess flights will be the biggest cost. Snorkelling, cycling along the beach, diving and swimming all on your doorstep. Cost of living is so cheap and food is delicious! We are a travelling family and blog about long term travel at www.rtwfamilies.com Feel free to message me if you want to chat more about Bali.

Tuscany region and its surroundings have way too much to offer. How can you explore the city as well as take one of the day trips from Florence? FIAT 500, like Vespa, is one of the vintage icons of Italy.

I'd really recommend doing west coast of USA or Canada. A month seems to be an opportunity to pass up.

I've done a couple of trips over the last couple of years with DTs who were 4 and then 5 and think it worked well. We did California and then last year Washington State and Oregon.

Each trip was 18 days including flights but effectively 16 days of holiday. With three weeks you could do a great road trip without some of the rush or compromise there sometimes is with two weeks and with the fourth week you could do a week in one place and do the real relaxing thing - so nice airbnb at the beach or somewhere wth a great water park or a stay on a ranch with kid friendly activities sort-of-thing.

I did the Canadian west as a teenager and definitely recommend too.

Happy to share more details of our trips if helpful.

Tuscan holidays to new possibilities. In just one day you will be able to gain a thorough insight into the city’s history. The best part is road trip around Tuscany and Chianti wine.

Tofino is amazing. Look at house swap or air B and B.

CrabappleBiscuit · 07/03/2018 08:34

I think I’d do air B and B in Croatia....or Slovenia. Loads to do and not much driving...

Canada is gorgeous in August. Safe and clean, staggering countryside - glaciers and waterfalls, mountains, rain forests (on Vancouver island), hot springs, bears, hummingbirds, whales, horse treks through national parks.

What's Costa Rica like in August? That would be fantastic with young kids. The wildlife.
