Looking for suggestions for a family holiday in August for 12 and 13 year old (boy and girl).
What worked for you with kids of around these ages please?
Would like somewhere that feels safe and relaxing. Thanks

Try the Channel Islands.

There's lots to do and see, it's usually warmer than mainland Britain, good beaches and watersports (and you could stay in the Merton hotel if you want an onsite waterpark). Islands are tiny, so not much driving when you're there (and all major sites are connected by bus anyhow)

They have castles, fortifications and prehistoric sites, and Jersey had Gerald Durrell's zoo (where you can glamp in a yurt)

Sark is one of my favourite ever holiday destinations.

Thanks all although we prefer shade to direct sunlight we wanted a warm climate to relax in. Although the kids might have enjoysd that DH wouldn’t be on with taking off for a day out everyday. He needs likes some down time first.
Favourites are so far Algarve Falesia Mar, Alfgar 2 or similar, Croatia but can’t decide on location/accommodation and proving too costly to go to large hotel with tour operator or possibly camping or a lodge with AC in south of France or Italy if eating out more than eating in.

If you don't like it too hot what about the Atlantic coast of Portugal instead - Estoril or Cascais, or the Atlantic coast of north west Spain?

Thanks Cascais does sound very nice but we’d have to arrange and book it all ourselves and probably stay in a private let so DD and DS maybe not be happy and maybe hard work if no holiday friends materialise and so DH may struggle to relax if we have to entertain them every minute of every day.

I live in the south of France, near Cannes, and lots of accommodation and activities here may suit you. E.g., DS (12) did a one week catamaran sailing course last summer, mornings only, left plenty of time in the afternoon. English , a bit basic admittedly, was spoken by the instructors, and a few English kids on the course. There are a lot of things like that here for DC of that age, that still leave time for the family. Loads of other things if you don't want to be on the beach all day. Visits to Italy and Monaco for example, girl and perhaps boy would enjoy creating their own perfume at one of the perfume factories, hiring electric boats on the river down the Verdon gorge, water parks, trips out to islands, lots of snorkelling. DS always meets new friends on the beach or in the pool every summer.

If you enjoy cities as well it is easy to combine with a trip to Paris, 5 hours by fast train, or one hour by plane, and not too expensive if you book in advance.
