Not sure about your question about the cartons of milk and the plastic bag but I just thought that I would mention about requesting a skycot for your 3 month old. We travelled to Florida with our then 8 month old ds last year and had a Skycot which was definately useful although he was almost too big for it, at least he was able to lie out flat rather than being clamped to me for 9 and half hours.

Hopefully your 3 month old will sleep for a fair bit of the time so that will make things a little easier for you. I was breastfeeding at that time so didn't have the issue about how many bottles of milk although I did take a couple of spare cartons with me but had to leave them on the plane as you are not allowed to bring food/dairy products into the US - they are very strict and can fine you. That was the advice I was given by the air hostess. I know of loads of people who sneak the powdered formula into their cases though!

Best to speak to your airline for guidance.

Hope this helps. We too are off to Florida again in May. My ds2 will be 22 months old so I am really not looking forward to the flight this time! I will be posting for ideas myself soon!

Have a great time!

This is from BAA's website:-

Bag content ? Families/babies

Am I allowed to take a baby-bag as well as my own cabin bag, if my child is sitting on my lap?
Yes, even though the baby does not have its own seat, it has its own bag allowance. But do check other restrictions with your airline.

Am I allowed to take my child?s pushchair to the gate?
Yes, you are allowed to take pushchairs, prams and buggies to gate. These items will need to be x-rayed, though, and so your child/children will have to be lifted out at security. The security officers may make further checks of the pushchair.

Am I allowed to take children?s puzzle books, games and stickers on board?
Yes, you are allowed to carry these in your hand luggage through security and you can also buy them in the departure lounge.

Can I take wet wipes on the plane?
Yes, you can carry wet wipes.

Can I take milk powder with me to make up a bottle of milk on the plane?
Yes, you can carry milk powder.

What about a bottle of prepared milk does it need to be a maximum of 100ml?
No, nor does it have to fit in the re-sealable bag. However, the amount must be sufficient for your trip only. You may be asked to taste baby milk and food by a security officer. There are no limits on powder formula and water is available in shops after security and airlines can provide water during the flight.

Can you buy cartons of formula milk from the shops after security?
Yes. Boots sell Cow & Gate ready to drink formula in both 250ml and 500ml after security at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted. Every country which is implementing the new security arrangements has accepted that parents with babies should be able to carry sufficient baby food/milk for the journey, so 'reasonable amounts' are exempted although you may be asked to taste them.

What happens if the baby can only tolerate non- dairy and needs Soya or rice milk?
As long as the milk is in a bottle and tasted by the accompanying adult at security that?s fine.

What about jars of baby food?
Any jars of baby food will be required to be opened and tasted, they do not need to go into the re-sealable bag.

What about pureed food in plastic pots or containers?
Any pots of baby food will be required to be opened and tasted; they do not need to go into the re-sealable bag.

Can we take baby car seats (for use on the plane) through security?
Yes and they do not count as your single bag.

Can we carry sandwiches and crisps for the children?
Yes, crisps are fine and sandwiches with any type of filling are also permitted.

Can we carry children?s liquid ibuprofen and paracetamol in our hand luggage?
Yes, sufficient for the trip. You may need to test the liquid medicine by tasting it in front of security.

bobbyboboo - The regulations at the moment mean that you can't take cartons with you. We took our 5 month old to Florida last year, and i took enough powedered milk and one carton and the carton was confiscated because i wouldn't open it and taste it to prove it wasn't dangerous.

I would advise taking bottles of cooled boiled water that you are willing to taste, and powdered milk that you may alo have to taste. We did this last time, and are going again tomorrow, and will do the same, they were fine with it, but did check our bag.

You are not limited on the amount of liquid you take for your baby, only adults.

One other option which i also tried was to call the boots store in the airport on the departure gate side, they will reserve cartons of milk for you, because you cna buy them once past security. The only reason i didn't was because they only had SMA and it makes my son sick.

I found the flight much easier than i'd expected, my son slept well, which he didn't at home, and was very calm, make sure you take plenty of drinkign water for your little one too as they can get very dehydrated. Also with some airlines they are allowed their own seperate hand luggage. i managed to fill a hand luggage bag for each of us (3), mainly with my sons bottles and toys and changes of clothes.

Thanks for all the advice, it seems i would be best taking water and powder separate than the cartons. Wouldnt be possible to open and taste them as i would need at least 3 for the plane. Am finding it all quite stressful will be glad when we get there!
Webwoman05 - yes have reserved a skycot already just hoping its available when we get there.

Anyone know what the weather is like over there at the moment?

We came back yesterday from 2 weeks in Florida. Both there and back I was allowed to take a carton of formula milk on the plane. I also had bottles of water and powder and we had to taste the water. On the way out (from UK) I had to taste the baby food jars but didn't on the way back.

Although the US don't allow dairy products in I actually asked the US customs about the carton of baby milk and I was told infant formula is fine to take in.

The weather was hot (around 88/90 degrees) and fairly humid.
