Wiggles on tour

We've just bought tickets to see The Wiggles in Birmingham for DD (4) who is a massive fan.

Any tips on what to expect from anybody who has been to see a previous tour?

wow! when are they palying, we'd love to go too!

Butkin · 22/04/2007 12:38

Take a look on the Wiggles Australian website. It lists all their tour dates coming up in the next couple of months - starting in Ireland and then making their way down UK.

They finish with 2 days at Apollo in London (2 shows per day).

We're going to noon show at NIA in Birmingham and they had plenty of tickets left on Wednesday when I rang up.

Nemo2007 · 22/04/2007 12:43

take roses for dorothy

We went last year to manchester and Ds loved it.

yogabird · 22/04/2007 21:32

roses for dorothy? to throw? makes a change from knickers to throw at the band i suppose!

Nemo2007 · 22/04/2007 21:36

yogabird the wiggles come out into the crowd so if your DD has roses for dorothy she is likely to get to meet one of the wiggles

Whoooosh · 22/04/2007 21:40

We're off to the Apolo with dd aged 2-can't believemy life has come to this.....

yogabird · 22/04/2007 21:45

just rung granny who is trying to get tickets in nottingham for us tomorrow - hope we haven't left it too late. I feel absurdely excited at the prospect do i need to get out more??

Harrogatemum · 26/04/2007 10:03

oooh yogabird, me, DH, the DTs and DD are off to Nottingham - we are going to the 11am show. I cant wait, as I would like to meet Anthony msyelf, I think I may be more excited than the DTs (who dont really get it being only 2....)

pinkranger · 26/04/2007 10:09

we wnt hammersmith last year and ds loved it , we took roses and he drew a picture , they come into the audience to collect!!! we were all very excited!

ellceeell · 04/05/2007 23:41

We went to Hammersmith too! dd2 - then aged 4 - was not sure about it before we went, but sang along to the songs and joined in the dancing (in her seat) like a trouper!

lemonaid · 04/05/2007 23:47

We went to Oxford last year and are going to Hammersmith this year.

It lasts about an hour and a quarter to an hour and a half. They always start about ten minutes after the official start time. The merchandise is staggeringly expensive so work out your excuses in advance. Yes, roses for Dorothy (real or made from tissue paper) or bones for Wags get collected by the Wiggly Dancers in the stalls or Murray and Jeff in the circle/balcony.

It's a really good show and they certainly put in the effort.

You do know it's Sam now rather than Greg, presumably? I'm not sure how to explain that to DS as obviously it's still Greg on all the DVDs and on TV. I guess I'll just let him figure it out (if he even notices -- I suppose one Yellow Wiggle is much the same as another to a 2yo)

DrippingLizzie · 05/05/2007 01:01

What happened to Greg? Why is he no longer a Wiggle? Did he run off with Dorothy the Dinosaur?
SOMEBODY TELL ME. I will not be able to sleep until I know the whole story.

lemonaid · 05/05/2007 06:44

He's not been well for some time -- episodes of blacking out going back over ten years but getting steadily more frequent until he missed last year's US tour entirely while the doctors tried to work out what was wrong with him. It turns out to be orthostatic intolerance, which is a condition that affects the autonomic nervous system. The most obvious effect is that the heart doesn't compensate for changes in posture and effort (e.g. when standing up or exterting oneself) leading to fainting and shortness of breath. It's not life-threatening but it's also not curable and needs to be carefully managed, which more or less rules out a career where you jump about on stage for several hours a day.

kateyp · 05/05/2007 07:16

We are off to Nottingham too - rang mid week and we got front row of the circle/balcony thingy. In the stalls they only had the back available for both shows.

I am very excited about it. 2yo doesn't know yet although think he will like it. Having said that when we put a cd on in the car he often requests "too loud, turn it down" so not sure how I will tell the Wiggles that they are being too loud...!

I could've met the Wiggles - i worked at Adelaide children's hospital for a bit in 1997 (OMG 10 years ago!) and the nurses said "you not sticking around this afternoon? the wiggles are visiting!" and I said "nah - it's my afternoon off!" little realising how famous they were/would be. Indeed got to my brother's house (in australia) for Christmas that year and my 3 year old niece had wall-to-wall wiggles stuff. I could've been favourite aunty...

lemonaid somewhere I read that the Wiggles can all walk about in normal clothes and kids won't recognise them without the 'uniform' so I am hoping that, like you say, one yellow wiggle is like the another!

popsycal · 05/05/2007 07:24

we are off too
ds1's 3rd time and ds2's first
it is a great show

Butkin · 12/06/2007 16:53

Went to Noon concert at NIA Birmingham yesterday and it was a great success.

We'd bought Wiggledancing DVD - which is the new DVD of this concert - so that DD knew all the songs etc beforehand and this got her right in the mood. Not as much Christmas songs (pretty obviously) over here but it was very enjoyable and the kids had an absolute ball.

They read out loads of notices and many thanks for tipping us off to take roses - a wiggle dancer took them off us.

They certainly worked hard and the music was really clear. Lots of costume changes and the 70 minutes really flew by.

The highlight was when Murray went walkabout (they all do) and we said to him "you're DD's favourite" he said "hello DD" which made her day.

Just watch out for the merchandise. We ended up with a dorothy tail (12 pounds), flashing big red car (12 pounds) and a gas filled balloon (6 pounds). Really hard to resist when all the kids seem to be wearing/carrying them.

If you're worried about this avoid going near the merchanise stand and perhaps be prepared to let them "choose" just one item from the girls walking around the foyer.
