Oh no

Is there no way she can dot he one day service in Liverpool. Where you just have to sit there for the whole day and pay a fortune?

You know we are going through a very similar (but not as urgent) as you? My sister is coming to Florida with us in 3 weeks. Last week she went to find her passport and travel insuance stuff and it has all disappeared - must have got lost in move. She has an appointment in Durham tomorrow to get a new one. We have hadlots of problems getting her passport forms signed though due to first class mail taking days rather than next day. Grrr!!!

codswallop · 22/07/2004 11:48

The Premium service is a guaranteed one-day service (provided it is received before the cut-off time). This service is not available for people applying for a first passport, or to replace a lost, stolen, or damaged passport. Your passport will be made available for collection at your passport office.
If someone is collecting your passport for you, they must provide evidence of their identity and a signed letter of authorisation from you. If the application is for a child, the person who has signed section 09 of the form must sign the letter. A passport can only be issued if the applicant is in the UK at the time of the application.

The guarantee for this service only applies if your application is properly completed and straightforward. The onus is on you to provide a properly completed application form and the required supporting documents to confirm identity and eligibility. If the information provided is incomplete, or in our view not sufficient to confirm eligibility, we may not be able to issue a passport in the expected time.

I will let you know what happens

The guaranteed 1-day service is damn expensive though. What a nightmare!

Hulababy · 22/07/2004 11:58

Very expsenve. The 2 week one is bad enough. My sister is having to pay around £70 I think.

codswallop · 22/07/2004 11:59

We had to check all of ours as we had to make sure we had at least 6 month's left on ours. Mine is okay - just.

Kayleigh · 22/07/2004 12:13

the daft thing about kids having their own passports is that in a family everybodys passport expires at a different times which is bloody hard to keep track of. They should allow you to pay pro rata and have an expire date at same time as parents passports.

Hope your sister sorts something out coddy.

SoupDragon · 22/07/2004 12:15

We had the 6 month thing too, Hulababy.

BTW, if you apply less than 6 months before your passport expires, they'll date the new one so it expires 10 years (or 5) from when the old one would have expired.

Hulababy · 22/07/2004 12:16

Soupdragon - that is good to know!

StripyMouse · 22/07/2004 12:22

IN the middle of sorting out my children?s passports now. The problem is that we have moved recently and the only people we have known long enough to qualify for referees are family so don?t count. I don?t want to start posting stuff off to people to sign, can I use an old family friend - he was a "professional" but is now retired so does he still "count"? Anoyone out there know the rules on use of referees?

SoupDragon · 22/07/2004 12:25

I think retired is fine. I did think that they'd removed the "professional" requirement but the instructions don't say this.

SoupDragon · 22/07/2004 12:26

There's a list of countersignatories here and it says "working or retired".

Fio2 · 22/07/2004 12:54

hope she gets this sorted cod, it is so easily done

Hulababy · 22/07/2004 13:03

So how many people reading this thread have just gone and checked their passports?

Fio2 · 22/07/2004 13:05

mine is due to expire. I was 15 (nr 16) and look really young and thin and hace hoopla earing and one of those tacky half-heart necklaces of a prev boyf (vbleurgh)

codswallop · 22/07/2004 13:09

still crying?

when are they going..sat?

albert · 22/07/2004 13:21

Actually checked mine and Ds's yesterday as we are due to fly to the UK tomorrow - would have been too late of course if they had expired but anyway...Why does DS have to have his own passport? The photo in his was taken when he was 2 months old (he started flying at 6 months) and now he is 4 so it could be any baby's photo really - what is the point? I'm sure there must be one, isn't there?

bundle · 22/07/2004 13:32

oh bum. still haven't got dd2 a passport. will have to do the pricey one-day version. bum bum bum. oh bum.

Hulababy · 22/07/2004 14:04

albert - DD is 2 days old on her passport photo. It was taken at the hospital as part of the photograph scheme there. She is now 2y3m and looks npthing like it, obviously!
