Sorry another Disney Orlando thread - where do I get baby food, etc?

We are going this summer, DD will be 8mths. Whilst she will be able to share our food some of the time, it clearly won't work all the time and I want jars, etc as backup.

We are staying at a Disney hotel, so not planning to have a car for the whole 2 weeks. Also not planning to lug 2 weeks supplies with us (she's a piggy and it would take up all of our luggage allowance!)

SO - do I have to plan on booking a car fairly early on so that I can go shopping, or is there a source of decent (HIPP/Plum Baby equivalent) food within WDW? Similarly nappies, milk, etc?

All the parks have BabyCentres which sell baby food / milk / nappies From memory they just sold the Gerber baby food which is a bit limiting. The milk was by whoever was sponoring it (Nestle I think).

I don't know the address, but I'm sure I read of an internet company which will deliver baby supplies to your room (which would save you having to hire a car early on.) I'll ask DH when he gets in, he may remember or he could post a message on the DIBB (Disney Bulletin Board).

Thanks - a friend recommended a UK-based company like that but they turned out not to deliver to the US. Gerber baby food and Nestle milk is not ideal, but better than her starving!

I took jars into disney land as it's just easier than searching roung to find something suitable, so it might be better to try and get a good shop done early on.

fwiw i think gerber food is just as good as any in UK. When I was in uk and dd was in early stages of weaning i couldn't get a jar of 'just apple' or 'just carrots'. I had to be carrot with something or apple with something. So my dd had lots of gerber food and she's fine!!!!!

ask on the DIBB board, there will be someone there who will know the answer, they are full of info and a great site, I asked so many questions before we went away.

dd2 was over a year old when we went though so I didn't need to worry about baby food, sorry

exbury - I went in december with my then 5 month old, i would recommend getting a car early on, and stocking up at the supermarket. Ds had gerber pos and was fine eating those, he loved them.

We're going again tomorrow and Ds is now 10 months and we're staying in a Disney hotel. The parks do have baby centres but they have limited supplies. I'd stock up on nappies when shopping too. This time i'm taking enough for a few days nappies and wipes and we have a car for one day next wednesday so we're getting more nappies then.
As far as food goes We're going to make sure we have one sit down meal a day, all the hotels and parks have proper restaurents, not just fast food. What hotel are you in? Some hotels have food shops inside. ours delivers essentials to your room. So we're having bread and milk etc delivered, so Ds will have sandwiches for lunch and cereal for b'fast or pancakes etc when we're out.

Easily got round i hope.

I'm taking milk with me. Not risking their brands upsetting Ds's tummy. What airline are you flying with? as your little one will also ahve thier own baggage allowance, although limited.

I was going to suggest doing a supermarket shop, even if you don't p[lan to hire a car, there will be plenty of taxis - you can stock up on nappies, food, snacks that sort of thign and keep in your hotel room

exbury · 27/04/2007 22:25

Thanks, all. I need to think about it soon, along with booking a character breakfast and calling virgin to bag (or try to bag) bulkhead seats.

Any recommendations on nearest/ best supermarket (we are staying at the Carribean Beach)?

No problem with nappies in the Disney hotel resorts. And I seem to remember that the shops did have some food too. But I agree - get a taxi to the nearest Publix or Walmart.

The other thing that I would mention, is that although the Disney transport system is very efficient you do have to wait for the right buses and there may be several stops before yours (even within the Caribbean Beach Resort itself). We've just stayed at the Polynesian and having a car was great - you don't pay for parking in any of the theme park car parks and it did seem to be much quicker than the few occasions that we used the Disney transport (in fact the one evening when we did rely on the Disney transport as we were both drinking the queues were so long that we gave up and grabbed a taxi). Driving in Disney is really easy, and everything is well signposted.

We came back from 2 weeks in Florida yesterday. We didn't have a car as we used taxis if we couldn't get a bus. We actually found the cost of taxis was cheaper than a car rental by the time we had paid insurance and hiring 2 car seats etc.

I took infant formula in my suitcase. One large box (900g) was enough for DS for 2 wks, although he is 11 mths so only on 2 feeds a day. You may need more.

Nappies and baby food are available at the baby centres at Disney but they are expensive. We went to the supermarket and stocked up. DS was fine with Gerber jars. My only issue was that the only flavour I could find (in 2 supermarkets and a chemist!) in his age group was chicken noodle stew. He was really sick of it by the end of the holiday! He also ate alot of macaroni cheese which features heavily on all the kids menus there.
