Calling Newcastle Mums!

Can you help? We have 50 lads and dads on rugby tour to lovely Newcastle staying Saturday night (28th April) in North Shields (travel lodge). Can anyone recommend a friendly restaurant (they suggested chinese!) nearby that I could book for their evening meal?

Just bumping for you, Im in Newcastle but not aware of any nice restaurants in the North Sheilds area, dont know that area very well.
If they would be going into Newcastle there is Stowell Street which is a china town and has lots of restaurants.
You could post under Newcastle mums in the Meet up's as there are a lot of them who post in there and may be able to help you further if the group want to stay in or around North Sheilds

Stowell street or Waterside Palace on the Quayside in Newcastle. Don't know any in North Shields.

Bambiraptor · 19/04/2007 17:35

I have been to Garibaldi's in North Shields and it was very nice. That was a couple of years ago though.

Hi, I live in N Shields. Errrrr, Garibaldis at Tynemouth station is good - now called Il Forno, but quite popular - not sure you would get in - could try.

Otherwise:

Panne et Vino in Whitley Bay is fairly laid back - and you might get in with that number.

Chinese - yeah Stowell Street.

There is a nice Chinese in W Bay again - Ming Cottage on Whitely Rd.

Nice Indian - Aramee in North Shields.

Let me know if you want any more suggestions.......

Bambiraptor · 19/04/2007 17:52

What about Giorgio's in Tynemouth? That was nice when I went a while ago.
Garibaldi's is in Tynemouth not North Shields - couldn't remember which metro is was next to!

niceglasses · 19/04/2007 17:56

God you know I don't even know if Gorgio's is still there, probably though.

Sambucas right on N Shields quayside, very reasonable........

Thank you all so much, that's all been very
useful. I've had a look at Stowell Street, is it that far from N.Shields? Any one been to Lau's Buffet King? (I think it's the only place that's going to be able to take 50!)

lau's is fab it has a great reputation.ideal coz its a buffet.ive been a few times and the girls at work are always there.they are on building one in the metro centre.

Laus is brill. i know the hotel you are staying in as my little boy palys footie at the socer dome next door! you are next to the Royal Quays shopping outlet whihc is ok, also a bowling alley and wet n wild water park. not a great deal else, 1 pub, brewsters type aimed at shoppers and familes. You are about 10 mins walk (slightly uphill) to Meadowell Metro station. Metro is a light railway, it's 1 stop into North Shields (3 mins) a small town whihc attracts a fairly mixed bunch, there are some nice real ale type pubs and some quite rough ones! Sambuca on quayside is nice but quite small. Tynemouth & Whitley Bay are further on in the same direction (just another 2 or 3 stops). Drinkers in Tynemouth tend to be of mixed ages, we're in our fourties and that's where we go! Younger people go as well but it's slightly 'sensible'. Whitley Bay where i live is 'party city' (not necessarily a good thing!). Gaining a reputation as the stag 7 hen night capital. Drinkers tend to be younger and dafter! I'd walk up to the metro and go the other way to Newcastle. It's about 20 minutes. Monument is the City Centre stop, the following stop (& the end of the line) is St James whihc is right next to Stowell Street. Lau's is near the far end. Metros run about every 10 mins until about 11.45pm. anything else just ask!

elliepupp · 20/04/2007 16:51

How about wagamammas in city centre? Huge and very family friendly... can't book though, but maybe they would for such a big party!

Theresa · 20/04/2007 19:59

Glad to help, mumsnet has been a great help to me over the years so it's nice to be able to be on the other end for a change. be warned w & w is expensive, about £7.50 to get in i think and they do it on height not age. My 5 yr old son (who is quite tall but nothing too unusual!) & he has to pay the 'full price'. You also have to pay a £2.00 deposit per locker then about 30p, all at reception you don't need the right money, then you get your £2.00 bac on the way out. You can go back & forwards to your locker if you need to, some people take robes and eat at the burger bar (fairly std stuff), then put them back in the locker and go for another swim.
