I lived in qld + nsw for 4 years and found that generally you'll want light weight loose cotton outfits. it can get sweaty with the humidity, haven't been to Perth, but it's probably similar. Also a light cardi/jckt for evenings if it gets cooler.

hitchcock · 18/04/2007 11:42

the thing is that it nearly perths winter so i just dont know what to pack

winter in Oz isn't like winter here. wintering in brisbane, i wore what i'd wear in summer over here (uk). if you're worried, take clothes you can layer, ie that way if it is cool, put another layer on or conversely take one off.

suzywong · 19/04/2007 14:39

did you get that link I sent you last time to the Weather Bureau, Hitchcock?

it does get chilly first ting in the morning and last thing at night, so you won't need coats but some kind of lightweight fleecey thing, no need for hood, and a dressing gown. Long sleeve and legged cotton jersey PJs for the kids and some slippers because I 'm guessing you won't have carpet in the place you're staying and the tile floors get cold in the morning

ANd it won't be winter till the end of June, so don't fret

redhotdiva · 20/04/2007 09:51

redhotdiva · 20/04/2007 10:12

renting house out there we want to move out there sooooooooooon x places to vist in perth ????? with small people ged 16months and 3yrs ehat would you recommend

hoteljunkie · 20/04/2007 13:04

hiya, sorry couln't reply. got busy-at work.we lived in cottesloe and we went back ther again.i thing it has a fabulous beach- i remember that the indiana tea house was really kid friendly there.close to there if fremantle which is all about cafe culture but might have been better if you were on your own.
from freo you can get the boat over to rottnest which is def worth staying over on if u can. it's car free everyone bikes everywhere or there are small buses. the best deserted beaches if you want them lots of kids there, and quokkas- small kangoorey/ratty tye things. i though they were cute.back in perth the aquarium is quite good esp for your 3 yr old.if you have time to dive down margerat river ara is loevely but poss 4 hrs south.we also went to koala park which also had loads of kangaroos- i just can't remember the name, i'' ask DH if he can. in perth itself kings park is loevely and has a great playground which my DD loved but wouls also be good for your lo.it also had a canteen right there. hope this is useful.ps will speak to dh about and come back to u if thats ok

redhotdiva · 20/04/2007 13:14

planning to go to m river didn't get there last time we went. also planing to do bunbury? doing rottersnest this time as well as last time we were there it rained so not good to go when its raining i think???

hoteljunkie · 20/04/2007 13:32

hi, yeah def don't go to rottnest(or rotto as they call it) if its raining there's nothing to do if wet.if you're going doen to marg rvr have you considered penguin island or seal island. and alo ther's swimming with dolphins en route i think we used to stop off there .i'm not sure if it only happens at certain times of the yr tho'

redhotdiva · 20/04/2007 13:39

how come you got to live in perth for a yr???? jammie moo!!!!! would you go back???

hoteljunkie · 20/04/2007 14:31

we lievd ther for about a yr beacuse we were working out there. then we travelled down the east coast for about 3 months before haeding home. i would move out to oz in aheart beat if it weren't for the fact that my family's here. altho' funnily enough this when we went back in 2004 we thought that we'd probably live in sydney if we got the chance. we have a frien who moved to perth tho when we did and she met and married a guy ther. she's v happy.

redhotdiva · 20/04/2007 17:29

we went to sydney on our travels pref perth imo nicer ps sent you amessage on the other thread

thequeenofcontradiction · 21/04/2007 12:16

If you are going to Margaret River it's always a few degrees colder than Perth. We've been in late April and wore jeans and long sleeved tops with a light jacket over. And it gets cool at night which was a shock as our hotel wasn't heated!

When are you planning the move? We're just waiting on our final visa decision and should be heading out in October if all goes well.

redhotdiva · 21/04/2007 16:36

what did you take to perth to wear as we are only taking 2 suitcases for all 4 of us xxx

redhotdiva · 21/04/2007 16:37

planing to apply when we get back dp has some job interviews while we are out there
are you moving to perth??? if so where???

thequeenofcontradiction · 21/04/2007 17:39

We wore jeans mostly, vest tops for me and tshirts for DH. But then that's pretty much my uniform whatever the weather.
You'll definitely need at least one cardie, as even when it's warm it gets windy, especially in Freo and by the beach.

We are the king and queen of packing light, for me I had one pair of jeans, a skirt, and about 8 tees/vests. A cardie, trainers and flipflops. Plus underwear of course. I'm assuming you will have a washing machine?
People don't tend to dress up in Perth in my experience, so unless you're really into dressing up I wouldn't bother taking smart stuff. I'm always of the opinion that they have shops there in case we forget anything.

We will be moving to Perth, probably SoR (the Melville area) at first as we have family there and it's really central for Perth, Freo and the river. We quite fancy the Kalamumda hills too - you should take a trip up there, it's so pretty.

Hope you have a lovely time!

redhotdiva · 21/04/2007 18:35

i am taking more clothes than that but then i am a diva!!!! how far is the hills from perth?????

thequeenofcontradiction · 21/04/2007 19:32

About 40 minutes drive from Perth to Kalamunda. It's quiet up there, people generally either love it or hate it, but the town itself has some nice cafes and a couple of good pubs. The Melville Rose Gardens nearby is beautiful too.

redhotdiva · 21/04/2007 19:37

is it north perth or south as we will be north perth quinns beach

thequeenofcontradiction · 21/04/2007 21:03

erm...can't remember off the top of my head but think it's due east of the city

redhotdiva · 21/04/2007 22:15
