a small tip if you are holidaying abroad with a young one....

We have just returned from a holiday in Ibiza with our DS who turned one while we were away. The hotel was great, very friendly staff etc, great location.

One thing that let the hotel down was there highchairs. Plenty of them and very nice 'Ikea' style wooden ones but no safety harness at all. DS spent 2 weeks trying to climb out of it and succeeded most days! So if you're going abroad (or anywhere) maybe squeeze in a harness or some reins or some other form of restraint for your peace of mind.

ps. Our hotel (classic package holiday type) had black out blinds at the bedroom windows. A nice touch.

my top tip would be - get a direct flight! no fun hanging round waiting for a connection - without buggy...

will try and think of some more based on recent less than satisfactory experience...

Yes, highchairs abroad are a nightmare - we've not long returned from Alcudia and the chairs they have in restaurants are really dangerous (no restraints, not even a bar across the front of some of them).

Thank goodness I took a portable chair restraint, which was great - made of material, but straps them in without fear of toddler flying forward.

Be warned those taking holidays abroad this year, the high chairs are deathtraps.

Couldn't agree more about high chairs - that is, if they have any! More often than not we've found that cafes abroad don't have any. We invested in a walking harness (Mothercare, I think) which also has clips on it, so that you can strap your child to a chair. It's been brilliant, and is always in my bag, in this country too.
