If you have done both... how do you rate them ?
Just did a break at Legoland and it's half the price of Disney... wondered how Disney compared.
We have a 7yo a 5yo and a baby. We're thinking July... Newport Hotel for 2 nights. Thanks

How much does it cost very roughly to go to DLP?

If you went on the train and stayed offsite at a hotel?
Thanks.

The 'Applause' Award given by theme park operators for the BEST theme park in the world went to De Efteling in Holland.

It is based on fairy tales & fantasy and seems uncommercial compared with Disney & Legoland because the characters haven't been plastered all over TV, films, video games etc.

wurlywurly · 18/04/2007 16:20

DLP definatly.

marathonmum · 18/04/2007 17:08

DLP without a doubt. Legoland was very overated in my opinion

I hate DLP - hate the junk food, the queues and the sadistic street furniture. hate it hate it hate it

Never been to Legoland but surely it must be better than DLP?

Hulababy · 18/04/2007 20:29

foxcub - IME all theme parks sell rubbishy food. The queues were longer at Legoland than at DLP (we went to DLP in school holiday time, Legoland on a term time Friday in the summer)

niceglasses · 18/04/2007 20:33

Must give a quick nod to a theme park type thingy we went to at Easter - Efteling in Holland (bout 70 miles from Amsterdam). Lovely - magical - based on trad fairy tales but with something for older kids as well - really lovely. We went to Florida last yr and I must say it was probably better or as least as good as Magic Kingdom and not nearly all the crowds, plus cleaner. blah blah.

twentypence · 18/04/2007 20:34

DLP does do allergy food if you book ahead - so preumably you could say you were on a vitamin containing diet .

buktus · 19/04/2007 10:17

been to both i think legoland is the best thing we have been to in the uk for the kids or at least in the south and south west of england, we are off to DLP in two weeks for the third time we love love love it a provider of amazing memories

Disney land paris every time here. Went in Feb for Ds's 7th birthday. Brilliant time and he is desperate to go back. I would go for 3 nights 4 days personally as so much to see.

Am a lego land annual pass holder and it is nice there but doesnt compare to DLP imo.

For anyone trying to do DLp 'on the cheap' book your easy jet tickets early and stay on one of the 'off site but dlp recommended' hotels. We've stayed in the top 4 dlp hotels and they are all lovely but getting a little tired and in need of a bit of tlc. the 'other' hotels are apparantly about 25 mins walk but we've always go tthe free shuttle buss. there are four in a row we've stayed at the Explorer 7 hol Inn and they are both fab. The other two are the Movenpic & 'can't remember'. These hotels were built about 3 yrs ago and are really nice, there is no disney theming or decor but the decor has themes and is very child friendly. they are much cheaper than the disney hotels & the explorer has rooms for 6 (we were naughty & squeezed 7 in!). It also has a huge soft play and a nice pool. 7 of us stayed in Aug 05 and booked thru Expedia and we paid about £75 per night per room (yes per room for 6 people!). At the time we had annual passes to get in. you can also get these hotels on packages that include park tickets. also check out www.disboards.com

pupuce · 20/04/2007 13:16

thanks for that theresa
can you also get in the park earlier with those hotels though?

We just did Disney Paris, and it was pretty good. We stayed at Davy Crockett, which is 10 mins in the car, and quite a lot cheaper than the hotels on site. But you still get the extra less crowded hours.
Hint #1, when you drive in ,the leftmost two lanes move much quicker.

The Blue Lagoon is a decent restaurant at West End prices. DL is much less of a rip of than it used to be, but apart form a couple of places nearly all the food is fried cheese and sugar.
You can take in stuff, and fruit bars (like Jordans) are great for managing kids energy levels. A rucksack with water etc will make your life so much easier.

Our 6 and 3 yo loved it, a lot.

Must say however, that I would not do DL in the summer hols. Reports from friends talk of 2 hour waits for 3 min rides. Remember that French summers are on average hotter, and a couple of years ago many people died in the heat wave there. Not a great time to stand in the sun with two kids.

We did late Easter, and the wait for Pirates of the Caribbean varied from 10 minutes down to zero and letting us stay on for another ride. Dumbo was 20 mins, Buzz Lightyear varied from 5 minutes to 35.
Star Wars Tours was 5 to 10, and Peter Pan which our kids loved the most was 25-40.
The Car driving thing is only for larger kids and the queues were epic.

Everything was pretty good, some was excellent, and Disney have tremendously improved their staff from the child-haters they employed at first.

We did 4 of us self catering for a grand total cost.

Theresa · 20/04/2007 20:01

God point, i suspect you can only get in earlier if you are staying in the actual disney hotels.

Theresa · 20/04/2007 20:02

that's meant to be good point!

swedishmum · 23/04/2007 21:28

We went to the Marriot Village - paid about £70 a night in Feb for a little town house w 2 beds/baths, downstairs loo, sofa bed, washing machine, dishwasher, patio etc. Free shuttle to disney plus mini bus taxi v reasonable when you want to go though we used the car. Excellent value for 6 of us.
