I don't know Birmingham and ideally would like somewhere nice to stay that is nearby to the NIA where we are going on the Friday night?

There are loads of hotels on Broad Street. Novotel, Marriott, and many more. Broad Street is walking distance to the NIA along the canal. It will be heaving on Friday nights so you will be pretty safe. What are going to see there?

jujuthejetmum · 13/04/2007 09:49

Lost prophets
Is Broad street a dodgy area then - what do you mean "you will be pretty safe"
I was thinking if it's heaving would we be better off staying out of way of the NIA because of crowds? But then we'd probably spoilt the weekend by getting stressed trying to find it?

bordering on saying sod it and not going because my weekend breaks plans usually got tits up........but would be great opportunity for us to get away without the dc.

Sorry, don't mean to put you off. You will be safe in the sense there will be lots of people around. Depends what you want to do as well. But as I say there are a lot of hotels all around that area. Have you Googled Birmingham hotels around NIA?

jujuthejetmum · 13/04/2007 10:12

Hotel de vin are fully booked but they were very helpful and gave some other hotels nearby - thanks. Spa breaks look good

How about Malmaison?

It is near the Mailbox and walking distance to NIA. Boutiquey and trendy with a nice grown-up bar (not like some bars in broad Street).

Also, in Mailbox they have nice shops and lots of restaurants. Although I recommned the Le Petit Blanc just off Broad Street for their pre-threatre menu which is good value. In Malmaison, we don't have the breakfast (too expensive) since they is a good brunch place in Mailbox for a fraction of the cost.

I have a shortlist now of the Hyatt, Malmaison or Novotel and Marriott depending on the deal I can get. Love to incorporate a spa package

jujuthejetmum · 13/04/2007 10:58

OK what do you think Hyatt or Malmaison?
