How do I give my 16 mth old milk on holiday?

We are going to Malta in May and dd usually has a beaker of cow's milk in the morning and again in the evening before bed.

We are staying in a hotel (B&B), with no fridge in the room (it may have a minibar though). How do we keep the milk from going off? Should I just stock up on bottles of follow on milk and take that with us? Or will I have to buy milk each time she needs it?

i just hand over a carton of milk from the local shop to the owner/reception and ask for it at breakfast/whenever - i've not had a problem doing this - if they serve breakfast they must have a fridge somewhere. or you could take uht milk or powdered progress milk, but if she likes cold cow's milk she'd probably not like that!

Thanks for the advice. I think it is a large hotel, and I can imagine (knowing our luck), that we would never get our milk back if we did that. I guess breakfast wouldn't be so much of a problem as they will probably have cold milk for cereal - it is just last thing at night that might be a problem. Maybe I could get her used to the follow on milk/UHT at night before we go.

If it's a large hotel won't they have room service? If they have milk for breakfast in the mornings they'll have milk the night before.

My ds is 16 mo and only has 6oz of milk per day, so it may be fine for her to only have it in the morning for just 2 weeks (or 1 week). Everything will be weird on hols anyway, so no milk at night won't be that different...

Do you know we went to France when DD was 13 months and I can't remember what we did. TBH I don't think she had much milk at night but had it in the morning. I do remember worrying beforehand and then it all working out OK, it that is any help.

i did put it in our red mini cool bag with our names on when we were at a holiday inn - now i think about it!

I usually just send DH down to reception with an empty baby bottle and he asks for du lait s'il vous plait or leche leche - they always get the drift and he comes back with the necessary stuff. Never had a problem on holiday.

If it's a good hotel (as I'm sure it is) they won't mind in the slightest if you ask at reception nor phone down for milk every time you need it. We did that when away once and they didn't mind a bit (or charge us for it at all).

Thanks all. MerryMarigold - you are right. Her whole routine (what there is of one anyway) will be out over the week, so I suppose if she does just have milk in the mornings, it won't hurt.
