St James's Club, any advice on booking

Hi, this seems to have been recomended by loads of people - but just wondering about who the best TA to use, or book direct?
We would be me and DH, DS (7) and DD (3) - travelling in August.
I have seen suggestions to book room only, and pay extras later, rather than AI option?
Any advice is welcome, or alternatives if you know of somewhere better?
We would like direct flight if poss, and shortish transfer. Not too fussed about kids club, as they probably wont go!

Ahhh.... We have a timeshare villa there

We've been 3 times and have never spent as much as the AI option would cost. Last time wDSs were 7 and 5. The kids club is included anyway. The AI option only adds food and drink I think and often the beach drinks cart forgets to charge you for stuff anyway.

Virgin go there and this would be my preferred option as you check in for your return flight on site.

Then you are the best person to give advice, non?
Need to find a good deal, so can convince DH it's good idea.
We always have to book late, as are both Self Employed, and it's very difficult to arrange holidays

It's been out beast holiday ever. Last year the boys were running feral on the beach for the whole fortnight.

We went with Virgin the first time. The room was a bit on the small side so it's probably worth upgrading. The beachfront villas are fantastic but obviously much more expensive. With our TShare we have to fly BA unfortunately as Virgin don't fly there on Sundays which is what our dates are but I would seriously choose Virgin every time because of the "check in and chill out" facility.

I can give advice but I am hugely biaased

SoupDragon · 11/04/2007 11:54

"out beast" = our best !!

MrsBoo · 11/04/2007 12:00

It's a couple of years since I have taken long holiday, so i am trying to get used to the price!
virgin quoting £4K for 2 weeks room only for last 2 weeks August - not sure it that's good or not - and how much to allow for food and drink on top

According to my bill, we spent $2,500 (US)

michaelad · 11/04/2007 12:04

Sorry to be so ignorant, but where is St.James Club?

SoupDragon · 11/04/2007 12:05

Antigua.

SoupDragon · 11/04/2007 12:05

At least the one I'm talking about is !

michaelad · 11/04/2007 12:05

oohhh..does anyone have a link for me to look at?

SoupDragon · 11/04/2007 12:06

BTW, Kids Club will take your children in the evening and feed them so you can eat in peace.

SoupDragon · 11/04/2007 12:06

look away now

michaelad · 11/04/2007 12:08

found it! Looks gorgeous but think it might be slightly out of my league. How much did any of you pay for 2 weeks incl. flights?

michaelad · 11/04/2007 12:10

Will have to wait, ds2 is just about 2. And if the kids club don't take them until they are 4...

SoupDragon · 11/04/2007 13:48

We went when they were quiet and Kids Club took DS2 aged 2 (including having him for dinner) provided we checked on him and changed his nappy I don't think this can be relied upon though!

I can't remember how much the flights cost TBH and we have a timeshare now so don't pay the full accomodation costs either.
